Type resmon and press enter.
Click network, sort by download and you will see the download. Source.

Thanks @hio77 although I was scratching my head for a minute with the '4 flags' note 😁. The good ol run command came to my rescue. Learnt something new today, thank you.

Next time I see some updates come through, I'll have another nosey. The insider builds are 1 - 2weeks apart at this stage I think.

Got upgraded to "Gigabit" fibre, still balls slow, only time I get decent speed is Steam (10MB/s) or Torrenting Linux ISO (30MB/s)

Still waiting for follow up to my support request with Orcon.

I've noticed that performance from Europe has been rubbish for the past couple of months (starting early Feb) - I'm talking <500kBytes/s avg over 10 minutes compared to the 5-10MBytes/s which was typical prior to that.

NZ/AU has been okay, although casual observation suggests that things aren't peaking as high as they used to.

Another one coming your way Sounddude with IPv6 disabled as requested - which surprisingly doubled the download speed - still not breaking 100Mbps on a gigabit connection though.

I appear to be having similar problems the last coupe of days downloading from the MS store is very "bursty" one sec I am getting 20Mbps then nothing!

not sure if it has anything to do with it but whenever I do a trace the second hop almost always times out

@hyperman nope nothing to do with it at all. some servers etc de-prioritize or block ICMP packets. you generally want to look at the pings from the last hop. or where the pings go to on their way to the last hop

Been dealing with Orcon support on this, after a myriad of tests got passed up to tier 2 which whose response was, ummm, not what I expected.

Testing continues. Out of curiosity it's not normal for speedtest tests to ISP servers to be slower than speedtest tests to peers/competitors riiiight?

I disabled it, and now getting 1MB/s on the nixos download, still unacceptably slow for a 8MB/s connection.

I'd really like to see people using Mbps for line speed and MB/s for downloads - otherwise things get really confusing for readers.

For example, 1 MB/s is less than 8 MB/s sure but if 1 MB/s is the download and 8 MBps is the line speed, then they are the same.

Also the OP doesn't really have a lot of information (Which I guess was passed to @Sounddude at some point) - e.g. "10 MB/s link" should really be 10 Mbps link and was this (before OP confirmed fibre installed) a ADSL or VDSL connection?

So many unknowns at the start.

Unfortunately MBps/Mbps is going to be an everlasting point of confusion and ambiguity as long as humans exist.

The two terms are just too similar when written shorthand, even though anyone with a hint of tech knowledge knows that they're a factor of eight away from each other.

People sign up to a 100/20Mbps fibre internet plan and then complain that they're not seeing anywhere near 100MBps download speeds.

There are no unknowns if you bothered to look at the pictures I provided, my connection was synced at 107738 kbps, and speed test at 81.92Mbps, giving me ~10MB/s, no point working in multiple units of measure, I did the math and provided the correct amounts to reasonable precision.

I complained it was slow speeds to specific websites, hinting I got the full speed to other websites and services like torrents and Steam.

I used small letter k, and big letter M as per SI standard prefixes.

In my 2nd post I said it bursted to 13MB/s, showing the connection could sustain 10MB/s.

Did you get any further with this? I've been kinda busy and Orcon were ignoring my emails and I hate making phone calls.

At this stage I might just switch ISPs, most 100mbps connections are cheaper and faster than this.
