dt:

one other thing, with your dns settings if you don't want to use your service providers servers you should use cloudflares dns servers 1.1.1.1 /1.0.0.1 as googles public dns servers will route your requests via Sydney where as cloudflares with route via Auckland

Except if your on a provider that doesn't peer (spark)...

I'm pretty sure Cloudflare buy transit for their public DNS resolver...

Which is why it's always been hitting au for 1.1.1.1 rather than nrt or wheverever Cloudflare has capacity to offload.

They don't transit within nz to spark. Double checked this a few mins ago on a spark connection to be sure...

As per...
https://support-nz.myrepublic.net/hc/en-us/articles/115001736563-Setting-up-Third-Party-VDSL-Fibre-Routers

MyRepublic do DHCP on an untagged interface.

So change the "connection type" to DHCP (or it might be called IPoE). Even though its "dynamic" you will be assigned what ever the address they have statically assigned to your circuit and it won't change.

Just make sure they have given you the ultra-gamer IP so you get negative ping for maximum pwnage.

Edit: if you aren't getting the ultra-gamer super mega IP they told you that would be assigned, jts just simply no set up properly on their end.
I'm pretty confident in saying no NZ retail ISP would want you setting a static IP manually. It will always be assigned from their side.
