believe microwave solution is not going ahead as planned. now they are getting telecom to hook up there cell sites and provide the back haul to there data centres. only problem now is getting them hooked up to the telecom network. because a lot of nz comms cabinets are not near telecom cable runs, chorus has to pull cable into them. this often means you need the council to do road crossings and getting RMA's. once the council is involed to do anything that just adds xtra time to the job. councils are the slowest people to deal with

Numerous co-sited Vodafone / NZ Comms sites in Wgtn.

The big question is whether "co-sited" simply refers to standalone masts or on existing structures where Vodafone have equipment.

Where multiple telcos have their antenna / masts on same building or even same private property; this is generally not considered co-location. Co location is when the land, or the mast which is used by one telco is then also shared with competing telco.

Multiple antenna / masts on a building or private property is generally up to what the owner decides can go there & any relevant contract they have made with the telco.

Tahii: Interesting, as Two Degrees is a winery in Central Otago. As such, both twodegrees.co.nz, and 2degrees.co.nz are gone. twodegreesmobile.co.nz appears to have been registered and being parked at Domainz.

Only a few days until we find out . . . has anyone heard anymore?

I have noticed four brand new NZ Comms sites in the past month, all without Microwave; the newest one has no boom for the Microwave antenna. This will defiantly add to the delay.

August they say now. Absolutely laughable how many times they've pushed back the launch.

Not all sites are microwave backhaul. Many are E1's.

Isn't E1 only about 2MB? I thought Microwave goes around 50MB

Yes, E1 is 2048Kbs (32x64k), channelised. 1x64k is reserved for clocking at the physical level, so even unchannelised E1s get slightly less than 2M.

Microwave is variable from a couple of meg on up. Depends on the hardware at either end and how much spectrum you have to play with. I suppose there are standards but I'm not a radio guy so I can't comment with any authority.
