My national speeds seem to be acceptable at this time. Between 12000kb/s - 14500 kb/s although well short of my 21800 attainable line rate. International is the real problem and well below what I expect from Orcon when paying for there MAX/MAX service. Something needs to be done.

What sort of speed are people getting now?
These tests were done between 9.45pm 9.50pm on 12/02/09.

On the St Heliers Exchange on Orcon+ but a decent distance away, why sync speed is low

Seems like the local and aus are fine, but some congestion out to USA, similar results from other people?

My crappy national result from earlier in this thread was due to a freak resync at ~ 850 kbps downstream, so no exchange congestion after all, but yeah, it looks like international performance during peak hours is just about back to the lows of last year.

Any online gamers (MMO and FPS players) with Orcon experiencing poor or zero playability during peak hours? It would be interesting to note how well latency and packetloss sensitive communications hold up as congestion increases... as this was a big problem for Orcon about a year ago, and I'm curious as to whether they've made any traffic management changes in that area in addition to just purchasing more international bandwidth. Low throughput is one thing, but when applications like games and voice chat become altogether unusable in the evening (the only free time that most people have), that's when people start leaving for other ISPs.

For the last two nights between 8.30pm and 11.30pm ive not been able to log into my AOC chars.

I tried gaming on my regular Server based in Chicago last night with horrific results. The latency and packet loss made it impossible to play...like the famous slow motion scenes from the movie The Matrix. Because I couldn't play in real time like others in the Server I left very frustrated. I ran more international speed tests to Australia & the USA and struggled to get above 900kb/s. This is worse than last year and that was bad...but I'm now on ADSL2 ????. If this is Orcon's future service good luck everyone. I have been in contact with other ISP's yesterday and will be switching my MAX/MAX plan, Homeline & tolls next week. I have two family members and three gaming friends who switched to Orcon on my recommendations back in 2007 who will also be moving once I decide on an alternative ISP that delivers ADSL2 service instead of dial up. Once I switch over I'll post my results here for you all to compare. Word of mouth travels fast in this business.

My international speeds and pings are alright :) I'm pretty much maxing out what my line can handle.

It's definitely getting worse again. I'm even having trouble reading/posting on a UK forum during the evening peak. And have had international file downloads capped at 25 kb/s. Yes, 25 kb/s.

I recently stayed in a motel in Hamilton with free broadband. Wow, what a difference - their ISP was Telecom. If this doesn't improve, and I suspect it won't, then I'm changing ISP.

Goodbye Orcon ! I'm switching...I've had enough of the half hearted excuses for lack of bandwidth or the poor International routing that causes dial up speeds and service. Once upon a time there was potential to be the best...sadly that is a fading distant dream. All The Best to the rest of you.

I'm having terrible speeds as well, what i'd like to know is why after 1-2pm my downloads go dramatically from 900kbs (400-800 on seperate files) down to a pathetic 170kbs MAX over seperate files. Example right now i'm downloading three files and they're stuck on 75/38/51.

EDIT: Also I'm on Max/Max 100gb plan, my exchange is running ADSL2 i'm in Sumner, Christchurch.

That's faster than I've seen sometimes.

But I'm not going to say they're fine!

Edit: Just downloaded a file from Google in the US at 50 kB/s. During the day it's 10 times faster!

Ive been doing a bit of testing for my ticket. As you can see huge drop in speed and wtf is wrong with London, 590ms+ everytime i test.
