OTOH, VF bundles can only be bought once a month, so you have to use exactly 100MB a month to enjoy the effective rate of 10c/MB. If you less data, you'll pay a higher effective rate. You have to use at least 83MB a month for VF to be cheaper.

?

I thought the voda bundle could be used as many times as you like in a month?

maybe I am thinking of the prepay mobile broadband one where overage is only 10c per MB making the effecitve rate always 10c when using >100MB
does this not apply to using mob internet on a handset too?

"When you reach 80% and 100% of your data allowance, we'll send you an SMS notification to the Mobile Connect software panel on your computer. If you do exceed your data allowance, we'll automatically Double your Data for $10 extra on Broadband Connect plan, and $29.95 extra on Broadband Super and Broadband Ultra. If you go over again, extra data costs just 10c per MB."

2degrees:
reven: can you setup the data packs to automatically renew or buy another one?

i may occasionally go over 50mb a month, or i may forget to text the renew code,  so that may be annoying.

When your allowance gets down to 10MB you'll get a text notification from us to say that you're nearing your limit so you don't need to worry about forgetting to text the renew code.

i still forget, ill probably receive the text read in once and then forget about it.  would be nice if i could just sign up to automatically purchase more data when it runs out, without me actually having to do anything.

also are 2degrees going to be doing any contract options for the new iphone when in comes out in july?  i may have to stick with vodafone to get the discounted phone when my contract expires...

Hmm, question is, where will they have 3g? will you be able to roam onto vodafone on 3g and still use data?

If yes (and there's 3g in hamiltron) I might just port my vodafone number over.. Will have to wait and see exactrly how much data I use on the HTC Desire (once I get the damn thing!)

EDIT: Well, I might port once 3G is launched that is.. not before :P

Certainly a better deal than Telecom's $6 for 20MB. I like the low price data plan option too, where $10/month on VF is a bit too expensive.

Nice work on $10 text. Once my credit expires on Telecom they'll have a hard time keeping me away from 2d I think...

The most impressive part I think is that you've just given a big middle finger to Vodafone and their new Simply Prepay. Other than BestMate, there's basically zero reason to go with Vodafone- eeeeverything else is cheaper on 2D!

I'm no expect on the details of VF Ts & Cs. I can't find any sign that you can buy data bundles on Supa Prepay at all, its not available as an add-on. And I read the para you quoted for MBB as saying that the 10c/MB rate only applies once you have doubled your data, ie over 200MB. And don't forget that as soon as you go from 100MB to 101MB they hit you with another $10 so your effective rate goes up to 20c/MB at that point. And doesn't drop down to below 12c/MB until you have used 166MB. And it all expires at the end of the (original) month so you have to fork out for another $10 bundle even if you still have data remaining from your double up...

Well done 2degrees.

Hopefully when 3G launches it will even be cheaper!

Any update on the 3G launch?

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10647377

article about the plans

I find a couple of bits curious though:

2degrees today said it is offering customers 50MB of mobile data for just $6, which it says is the lowest prepay mobile data plan in the market.

'lowest' in what sense? price per MB? certianly not - the plans Telecomand Voda offer work out way cheaper, although youhave to buyhigher volumes of course

lowest for minimum no of MB you must purchase? again, not true. Telecom and Voda both offer $1 for 10MB per day - which is a lower amount. and cheaper effecitve rate.

Yes, 2D works out cheaper for certian amounts of usage, and is probably more convenient, but the claim was 'lowest' which makes no sense.

2degrees chief marketing officer Larrie Moore said the plan was also significantly cheaper than its casual data plan, which charges a minimum of $10 to access a data plan.
AFAIk 2D casual data was 50c/MB, and no minimum spend. you could have spend ony 50c if you want. So WTF is he talking about?

Moore said mobile text users had been "held hostage" by paying high prices to text family and friends on other networks.

"We know customers in this market have been rorted for so long and that's what we want to change."
by copying exactly a plan that is already in the market ($10TXT)? Again, makes no sense at all. how can you be changing the market by offering an identical plan?

You'll get it once a day as long as you're below 10MB, but still have some left (i.e. if you don't have a pack, or you did but you've used it up completely, we won't annoy you every day to tell you!) Wink

Nice one 2degrees! this will please a lot of people ;)

@n4 Supa Prepay has 100MB @ $10/month and 512MB @ $30/month for prepay. If you use these up you can keep adding data blocks (100/512MB) which last a month from purchase

I'm sure johnr will correct me if I'm wrong :P

What your all forgetting is that with these plans being launched there's another couple of good reasons to be with 2degrees. Why sit there and pick apart the guys statement your getting more bang for your buck no matter how you look at it.

Sure maybe some of his claims are not 100% acurate but when have you felt that Voda or Telecom have been 100% honest with you. Fact remains is now they have plans which make them truly competitive. Use them or not the choice is yours but now at least we are spoilt for choice in NZ and 2degrees have helped create competition where previously the other two were quite happy in sharing the inflated profit margins whilst offering nothing new unless the govt decided they should investigate why we pay so much.

So in summary. WAY TO GO 2 DEGREES THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
