Hmm. 2D's vs Orcon:
Minutes:
2D's has 100minutes for $10/month. Orcon has 60 minutes per $10.
Txting:
2D's has 500txt for $10/month. (1000/month for the rest of the year). Orcon has 500txts for $10/month.

On-net txts
2D is 2c a txt. Orcon is $10/2000 (2c a txt, basically)

Orcons mobile is basically just the same as VFs, so nothing exciting there.

Oop, as Jonhr pointed out, it's $30 for 100 minutes on 2d's.
I guess I was looking at the wrong numbers.

I will say congrats as mobile competition is always a good thing :)

But I'd also like to offer the following skit:

Broadband
Cust: "Man, broadband lately is teh suxxors"
Orcon: "Yeah ... Telecom have issues with some of their provisioning to us"
Cust: "oh meh ... damned Telecom"

020
Cust: "what the who!? My calls are dropping left and right ... I can't order a damned pizza"
Orcon: "Yeah ... Vodafone are munching our heels and not delivering"
Cust: "oh meh ... damned Vodafone"

i.e. fix current stuff or at least give better updates & information :)

True, and the Orcon pricing is $30 for 60 minutes as well. So the comparison is valid.

Plus the Orcon text pricing is $12 not $10 if you're picking nits...

shame there's not a 100MB mobile data add-on like Vodafone. I use it a bit more than casual, but wouldn't even go anywhere near 1GB

It would basically be the same as everyone else though. Like slingshots 220MB data pack that costs... you guessed it, $22.

Customers can either buy a USB mobile modem for $199 or rent one for $5 a month.?? All figures are inclusive of GST. "

Thanx for that. Think I'll buy a Tstick and put in a 2D SIM when the data expires as 2D seems the best for casual data..

Math screwed there too - 2c/TXT versus 0.5c/TXT

Anyway, I think the $0/mth pay-as-you-go plan was well overdue from any provider to be honest - something that means that you don't have to worry about top ups, and pay for your calls later.

The included minutes and no term contracts are a step above other providers. Their mobile handset/account credits are repayable if you leave within 3 months - which is to be expected, but at least better than the 12 months that Black+White enforce (and they charge a fixed $100 fee for that... even with a $5 handset subsidy!).

Other than that, most of the stuff is pretty similar to Vodafone.

Orcon's supplying a Nokia CS 15 USB Modem stick for mobile broadband.

I definitely like the pay as you go plan, and the no contract term. Unfortunately, they only have the option of 1GB data addon.

It looks very much the same, HOWEVER.... no contract term is a very good unique selling point.

Handy for people like me who might be staying somewhere for a month or two without broadband (and can get mobile broadband from Orcon) before moving on.
