i just signed up to this plan and its clearly mis leading

Rapidshare speed is 2-5K/s
Torrents 5-20K/s (unless the peer is local)
HTTP is OK

Worst idea ever

Detruire: I've noticed that if I start a MU download with no torrents running, I get ~30kBps.
Yet as soon as I start a torrent, it climbs to ~30kBps and the MU download slows to ~1kBps.

If I then stop the torrent, the MU download will slowly rise back up to 30kBps.

Just confirmed this with my connection.

I'm not too sure if I'm happy that someone else is having the same issue or not...

However, I have to say I was expecting ~100kBps for torrents, HTTP, and FTP. ~30kBps for MU/RS/etc
Certainly wasn't expecting any of those rates to be shared amongst types, nor was I expecting just about everything else to fall under the same category (MMOs such as Perfect World, XDCC, Usenet, etc all seem to die if a torrent is running)

When i was on big time i was getting speeds of ~5-10 K/s so i am glad i didn't jump over as it looks like thats all i would be getting on these plans.

Clearly the triple bandwidth per user is still being eaten up by the huge downloaders leaving none for people who want <150GB of data a month but still expect semi-decent speeds.

I get all I can eat at work, the speeds are not too bad too.

Torrents etc can max out my 100mbit ethernet connection at times.

*Note, I don't actually do this at work, I actually do work, but for me general broadband feels slow, so this plan must suck, that's the point I am making.

Is Youtube throttled? Maybe you can still use the old Big Time trick and get torrents to actually go faster than that ^.^

System: Yeah so far the speeds on this plan is:

HTTP Downloads: ~150KB/s
FTP Downloads: ~150KB/s
Rapidshare/Megaupload etc: ~30 KB/s
Torrents: ~30-80 KB/s

Less than satisfactory, the standard HTTP and FTP downloads from not filesharing sites is awful, downloads shouldn't be capped that far.

On the slingshot forums one of the staff at slingshot said that if you have a problem with the speeds on this plan ring the helpline and file a complaint and then they can see how many people have a problem. That is what i am going to do.

Heh this is a predictable result.

Slingshot has always seemed to operate on a "complaint o' meter" process for buying more international bandwidth. There doesn't appear to be a level of contention ratio between X customers Y international bandwidth.

Orcon seem to be operating on this philosophy lately (in order to actually make a profit for the first time in the last few years but I digress..) with predictable results.

There are reports on the Slingshot forum that nobody has called the helpdesk to complain about these slow speeds, so when you do call make sure you get a ticket number.
There was also talk that Slingshot has been flooded with new customers (post big time) and was'nt really for all the extra bandwidth demands.
So it is a freak of service and there is hope of it becoming unfreaked.

There have been posts on both gpforums and the slingshot forums that people have already worked out how to get around the shaping

lucky you i regret it everyday since i signed up to them but ill be cancelling my bb soon with s.s
too many headaches even if it means paying termination fee and going back on dial up
less headaches and wont need to complain about their bb service anymore lol
