Only 10 days to Christmas...
I did have a ring from Orcon about my upload speed problem last week. They pointed out that the diag. Logs I had been sending them had a 100ms ping time between the Thompson adsl modem & my computer. Very odd I must admit. I changed to another spare modem I had, and the ping time went back to a sensible 1 ms. So ping time now OK, but upload speed still stuck on 128k.
Will give it till when I come back from Xmas holidays, then probably change ISP. We have had a good run out of SNAP at work. Afraid I'm not very impressed with Orcon support. How can this upload problem be such a hard problem to fix that a client has to wait months for a resolution?

Well I never got a call back in all the weeks of trying to get this resolved. So I will be joining you in looking for a new ISP.

Well I had another phone call today from Orcon. He said, I see from the latest diag logs the ping time from your computer to your modem has improved. Yes it has because I changed modems. The uplink speed is unfortunately no better.
Heres hoping for a result.
Upload speed is always OK to City link Wellington, 128kb any where else.
Here are a few screen captures to illustrate the problem.

Peter.

Opps. Photos did not upload. The first one showed the line speed 680k up, 7 meg down. The second showed Auckland download of 5.24 mb, upload of 125 kb. Third photo showed Wellington download of 5.27 mb, upload of 530kb

well this is my connection on bronze @ home + FS/FS + 25GB

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 15265 kbps 991 kbps
Line Attenuation 9 db 1 db
Noise Margin 10 db 11 db

this is ofcourse through an cabinet and it's a FS/FS connection although i stil think the DL sync should be greater than it is considering where the cabinet is which is less than 1KM away from my place

And not fixed for me neither. Come on Orcon at least let me know what is going on.

I think I have been pretty patient on this one (first notified 27 Oct!). Last call to CSR on 24th Jan gave me no assurances at all that it was ever going to be fixed Time to tweet.

Starting to think either I was very luck, or the problem somehow fixed itself. Sorry you guys are still stuck with the problem...

Had a ring from Orcon today. Asked me how I was getting on with my slow internet problem. Told them it was fixed, then asked "Did you guys not know?" Reading between the lines I would say it fixed itself. Anyway it's water under the bridge now, I have moved to Vodafone for their MySky HDi bundle. And as a bonus, my internet speed overall is much more consistant. Doesn't slow down so much at peak time.

And I had a CSR call today too about my ongoing upload issue. All very sympathetic - but no hint of a solution any time soon. What is going on here??

Well this might be the final post. As of today I have a 800kbps upload speed. Hooray! Only been about 4 months. I have been getting quite a few CSR calls informing me they are working on it lately. Last one at 4:50PM today - 5 hours after it was fixed!

Now for the qualifier. I have spend most of today trouble shooting a broadband connection issue that I think was bound up in Orcon fixing my upload speed issue. 20 disconnections and I am supposed to know it is not my setup.

Happy now - but it was an ordeal Just have to put my downstream systems back together again, Phew

Curious since we are talking about upload speeds.. when I do a dsl speed test, my download speed instantly jumps to max speed (7ish mbit), but when it does the upload speed test it always takes 5-7 seconds for it to build up to max speed (0.8 mbit) .. this to me suggests a sluggishness on the upload bandwidth, a sluggishness I experience while playing online games where you notice little things like this..  I am wondering if anyone else has this issue of a slow accelerating upload speed on speed tests?

The methods used for speedtest.net upload and download speedtests are quite different and yes the upload speed will tend to "ramp up" during the test..
