SaltyNZ: The 100MB pack is $10. Data packs will now auto-recur; when you use it up, or when it expires, it will be re-purchased immediately provided you have sufficient funds.

Is it possible to opt-out of the auto-recur?

I'm not currently a 2 Degrees customer, but will be shortly. I'm just waiting to use up the last of my Vodafone credit. My wife unwittingly helped out with this on the weekend, but kicking off an update for a bunch of apps on my iPhone. I went out while this update was running. Net result: credit reduced by $20 (only $15.55 to go; Yay!).

So the moral of this story, boys and girls, is this. If you want to switch mobile phone providers, but need to use your remaining credit first, give your iPhone to your wife for a few minutes :-D

Yes - if you get an error about the network not being supported, reboot your phone and/or clear browser cache before panicing. I had to reboot this morning - still had cached data from last week when it was not yet open.

Awesome! The $10/100mb of national data is all that was stopping me from switching from vodafone. Once my VFNZ credit is gone, i'll be porting my number!

Then I can stop carrying 2 phones! (I use my HTC Desire Z just for data, got a nokia 2730 on 2ds already for txt/calls)

Already answered:

Yes, after purchase text "STOP NAT" to 233.

And it's on site:

To buy a National Data Pack just text BUY and then the pack size  (e.g. Buy 50MB) to 233. You can cancel at any time by texting Stop Nat to 233.

baaaad - But I don't see the point in NOT renewing as the 50c overage is terrible!

Maybe it should have been setup that if the pack expires, it expires, but when you use more data again and you have $10 it will renew.

I bought the $6/50Mb pack for my wife's monthly plan phone and at home she inadvertently was doing some VOiP and not connected to the home wifi for some reason. She burnt up 80MB of data, went over the 50MB and I ended up having to pay $15 for the overage in data. Had the $6 topup been in effect then (or $10 topup now) then I would not have had to pay so much.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

It doesn't work like that, I'm afraid. It's asynchronous based on thresholds of the two balances (national data, broadband data).

In any case, it's like I'm sure I've mentioned at least once before: every design is a compromise that is guaranteed to annoy someone.

+1 also

So when I do "STOP NAT" to 233, does that ONLY stop auto renewal, or does it cancel the addon from that date?

i.e my roll over is 17th. If I text "STOP NAT" to 233 right now, because I am likely to forget on the 16/17th, will it stop auto renewal, or will it stop my 50mb plan (immediately), and then I will be on casual the next 3 days?

This is great news - when out of the main centres I don't bother with data as it seems to be too expensive. This might be a good option when away from Wellington for a couple of days. Good news that 2degrees are expanding their mobile data coverage too - loving the network.
