Sounddude: Hi Ragnor

Its something we are looking at. Currently Steam Content comes from Limelight, who we peer with in Sydney so we get very good performance.

I think Limelight's CDN is mostly used for parts of the store and steam client.  The game downloads and updates always seem to come from ISP hosted content mirrors in AU or valve's content mirrors in the US.

Pretty much all the big ISP's (internode, telstraclear, iinet etc) in AU are hosting content mirrors and not restricting them to their clients only which is pretty cool.

I remember last year when an Optus routing fault knocked out access to Limelight for Telecom, Slingshot and Orcon for 3-4 days!

No, Limelight depeered from Pacnet, which caused the issue for us.

Limelight at the time was harsh with peering partners. They seem to be more relaxed now which is good.

We Peer with iinet and internode in Sydney also.

So where do you peer at Aussie? Equinix + Pipe?

Problem there is the gang of four who are far worse than Telecom/Telstra and don't openly peer. Shooting themselves in the foot when NZ ISPs are willing to freely peer and provide transit back to their NZ networks for nothing...

That makes sense, there was a lot of conjecture at the time so my memory is probably hazy.

We are in the Equinix DC and Peer with the Equinix Peering exchange and direct peer with big content providers like google.

Currently looking to see if PIPE peering is worth it, but it looks like all the players we are interested in are already peering over Eqx.
