NZCrusader: I have put forward my ideas on the slingshot forums, suggesting that p2p ( which makes a sizeable chunk of any network graph in probably most networks ) could be severely limited during peak hours, or during the (higher) peak times in late afternoon / evening.
EG. Limited to 30-50kb/s or ( certain p2p types ) blocked completely during a certain time of day.
Thus giving every other use of the internet ( streaming, gaming etc ) a fighting chance at heavy network use times.
I think AYCE users could put up with having to do torrenting at off peak or during lower network load hours.
It already is heavily limited and I am on a pay per gig plan, I am only seeing 20kB/sec right now, it will go up to a decent amount soon and then plummet as soon as 2am rolls over. In the morning after free offpeak, it will come up again and start to fail about halfway thru the afternoon.
AYCE users have it even worse, the ONLY torrents that give anywhere near an acceptable speed are ones that are cached, so that means high profile public torrents like you should avoid normally.
They already are tampering with your connection by spoofing connection reset or connection closed when they detect you are doing a tracker update. I know for sure that the connection is not getting closed by the server as I have tcpdumped on a tracker and here and something came here that was not sent. Impersonation/spoofing/whatever - illegal if anyone else does it but fine for the ISP to do this without disclosure or providing any details about what they are doing etc.
