Talkiet:
Wellingtondave: The speedtest sites all lie, they seem to be whitelisted. Wrong forum but Telecom do appear to be managing traffic flows at some level.

This is not the case, unless it's related to genuine network congestion in which case it won't be targetted at a particular user, plan or protocol.

Cheers - N

Maybe for Telecom but for Slingshot they definitely put speedtest sites in the higher priority class(es) for traffic management.  They also definitely put what they call unattended download or file sharing sites in the lower priority class(es).

Ergo.. slow downs on file hosting sites should be expected on Slingshot, their entire business model is based on lowest prices, highest data caps... informally it's clear their policy is to oversubscribe their international transit until there are significant complaints and then get more... everything will be fine for awhile until the cycle repeats.

This is nothing new and entirely what you should expect on this ISP as it has happened numerous times already over the last few years.

Thought i'd add my findings on this topic.

I'm on Telecom business plan.

For a very long time i was getting around 1Mbs downloads on fileshare, filesonic, wupload etc. But recently, within the last 6 weeks all seemed to be 'capped' at around 100-200kbps.

Called Telecom and they explicity told me business plan was not shaped in any way and told me to reboot my router.. hmmm,

So, I signed up with StrongVPN to test if Telecom were in fact shaping http download traffic now. And now if i am connected to the StrongVPN I can receive full speed downloads >1Mbps. Turn it off and 1-200kbps.

Now, I don't claim to be a know-it-all in this arena, but to me this looks like Telecom is telling porkies and they are shaping the traffic.

Anyway, if the reduced speed is really annoying anyone and Telecom are not being helpful then go with a VPN and get your speeds back...

In the meantime I am looking for a change from Telecom, unless anyone can prove otherwise they aren't shaping.

Telecom. Are. Not. Shaping.

ps. I can't prove it without giving you all the configs to the equipment involved... that's not going to happen.

OK - i'm not in a position to dispute that. For an extra $10 a month I have my full d/l speeds back - and for that i am happy. It does bug me where in the route it is being throttled but for now i can live with it.

Hi All,

I believe that some changes (and large upgrades!) we made to our network overall last week should have addressed this sort of issue.
I would hope that our network is performing much better with these changes in terms of bulk filesharing and torrents especially for AYCE users, and would love to hear feedback on it.

To sm1ff specifically, I am happy to take a look at your account if things have not improved or if you are still not happy with your speeds and see if I can do anything to help =)

I'm still getting absolutely terrible speeds with premium filesonic.

350KB/s max :(

150GB plan.
