All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Thanks Nebbie.

A heads up for those with Linksys WAG200G modem.

Just changed form Orcon to Slingshot. Discoverd my Linksys no good with Slingshot. All good with Telecom and Orcon at my place, mates place and old place [just moved house] - no good with Slingshot.

Had a stack of tests done by Telecom techie [visit] and Slingshot helpdesk techi and no joy. T techie able to connect ok with his modem. Purchasing a Slingshot modem today.

Slingshot also told me I have the wrong profile set - I should be AM and I'm set for (I think he said) RM.

If you call Slingshot ask for Jesse - he know's his stuff.

Hi,

I don't see why this wouldn't work with Slingshot...Did you get DSL synch at all on it? Maybe he meant that the helpdesk doesn't support configuring the modem.

Thanks,
Ben

I had the problem with them supporting modems, seems they were only familiar with Dynalink. Once I dug out an old Dynalink I had, they fixed their side and I went back to other modems with no problem.

Hi,

Yeah, the helpdesk doesn't support modems that we don't supply.

Cheers,
Ben

Yes DSL was up. But the Telecom techi said something else was not; didn't catch it fully, but a TLA starting with P**. He couldn't see that on his laptop diagnosis.

Slingshot techi also bemused as to why the Lynksis modem wouldn't work. I factory reset it and than input all the settings Slingshot needed [same as Telecom modem, as i tried that on my PC], but no good. I called Linksys and they wanted $47 before they would help me.

Linksys wanted money before they would help you?

What the hell!  That puts me off buying their products!

From my own experience and what I've read about Linksys devices (they're unreliable and unstable), I'd never buy one of their DSL modems. A dedicated router unit, sure. But not a DSL modem or modem/router unit.

Agreed in regards to Linksys, However I do like dynalink routers because they don't really half die they either are DEAD or they work.... Personally I've gone though: Linksys, Dreytek, Dynalink, Dlink and Cisco. Just because I can I have Cisco router however its not for the non-techie you got to know what your doing.

If I was to expect support from slingshot I would use a Dynalink

==========================================

Well got the Slingshot modem today and same problem - dreaded red light.

So far:
Linksys modem works in old house [orcon] , mates 1 house [orcon] , mates 2 house[telecom]. Does not work in new house - dsl is fine. Telecom technician's modem worked fine; he used a Thomson.

Slingshot netcomm modem has same issue as Linksys modem.

Called Slingshot last night but they were busy. Can't call again until i get home after 7pm.

I now recall the telecom techi saying my Linksys had no PPP. his did. This may be the issue?

25 days & no still no internet.Yell

RESOLVED

Called Slingshot at 8am today. Discovered they had changed the password (during the last conversation) and so authentication failed.

So apologies - Slingshot modem DOES WORK.

Now to do speed tests....
