networkn: Well comments in other threads and other forums, seem to indicate the issues are ongoing, but hey mileage may vary, if it's meeting your needs that's great.

So have other providers.

"However, XT, which also falls under Telecom Retail, has performed under analysts' expectations in terms of market share as Vodafone has slipped only, and 2degreees surged to 950,000 customers, including 100,000 on contract".

trig42:
TinyTim: 1 million -- how cool is that!

They say one third of their customers have brought 021 and 027 numbers with them. So there are two thirds of a million 022 numbers out there. I don't know anyone with one. Where are they all?

Interesting point.

I got a free SIM way back. Used it for a week and put the phone in a drawer (had a work phone at the time also). It will have expired a long time ago now. I wonder if 2 degrees counts me as a customer?

Good on them, a million 'customers' is a big number in NZ. I just wonder how many of that million 2Degrees makes anything off, or is it just a nice statistic. Not hating on them, and I am sure VF and Telecom use similar statistics to say how many customers they have.

In previous customer updates 2degrees have counted a customer if they used data, made a voice call, or sent an SMS in the previous 3 months. Both Telecom and Vodafone have reported data over a 6 month period in the past, since they typically provide half year and full year results.

A fair chunk of them (no idea howmany – maybe 100k?) will be sims cards in mobile broadband sticks or ipads which have a number allocated to them but which of course you never dial the number for.

But are being used on the 2degrees network nevertheless

ofcourse, but being used in an ipad or dongle would explain why TinyTim hasn't seen any 022 numbers.

I see plenty of tradespeople advertising 022 numbers in the local papers up here (Far North).

When I bought a driveway alarm with an SMS module, it was offered with a 2D SIM due to the 9c per text plan.  So I think you will find many of those 022 numbers belong to gadgets rather than phones.  For devices which only use less than $1 of credit per month, 2D's standard prepay plan is the most economical option I could find.

XT? What is XT.... Can't find it anywhere on the Telecom website ;)

But back to the point..

A month ago I moved 6 business connections away from VF onto 2Degrees. At the time I had great hesitation due to 'bad press' against 2Degrees. I made the move due to increased minutes/offers, and wanting to fight for the under dog.

So far I have found them the same if not better than VF in all areas. I did have to call 2Degrees a few times but there was no waiting time unlike VF where I would wait for tens of minutes.

I did get a scare with coverage last week when a colleague showed me that the 2Degrees website stated they had no nationwide 3G coverage when roaming on VF -only 2G.... Was not the case at all. Both confirmed it was incorrect by CSR's and my account manager.

All in all, well done 2Degrees....
Now I'm getting excited to see what else you may offer in the near future "We?ve got more of this ?simple innovation? up our sleeve." -2Degrees Press Release

Just an anecdote - but when I backed up my teenage son's contacts last week as he moved from a feature phone to an Android, I found the distribution of mobile prefixes of his peers a little surprising: around 55% 022, 40% 027, 5% 021.

Many of those would be the prepaid spending around $10 a month, most of it on texts, type of customer.

P.S. saw in the news this morning: "2Degrees is considering entering the fixed-line market ... Such a move would let 2degrees join rivals Telecom and Vodafone in offering bundled deals for mobile, fixed-line phone and internet services."

Good for them, I will be interested to see what bundles they can offer.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

That would be really something to look forward to.. coz in the mobile market they are giving really good prices and if/when they enter the fixed line market.. they will give the other telcos a run for their money there as well.. all in all.. good for the customers..

I wonder if they count the drug dealers who use the SIM for a week then get paranoid and get a new one? Surely that's got to count for something :P

Sure, if that week was within the last 90 days. Same as everybody else.

Good on you 2 degrees, you are helping VF and Telecom bring down their prices.

As for you networkn:  You must have VF shares or something! not sure what your deal is.

I have been with 2D for at least 3 years I think and never had a problem ever!

I have no shares in VF, however I really value what they give us and our customers, and I don't buy on price alone. So it's not really an Anti 2D thing, it's just commentary to the effect that it's easy to be cheap when you are buying market share, it's the long term that will be more interesting.

Congratulations 2Degrees. I've loved every moment being on the 2D network. Great service for an affordable price. BB zone data is the best as well  Laughing
