In the last month 2degrees have installed a couple of repeaters which bring our signal level up to excellent. Before they were piggybacking off Vodafone who over they years have proven they are not interested in improving a unreliable/no signal at Waihi Beach, population 4k climbing to about 20k in holidays. Previously, could tell vodafone/2degrees customers as they were often seen standing in the streets holding their phones in salute position for a signal. Now only Vodafone customers get abysmal signal; we get full bars on most phones with 3g perfect.
The objective of this thread OP was not to knock 2degrees, just suggest they need to ramp up the competition once again. Al.
Some locations will have better reception over others depending on network. I find at 2degrees come up consistently better over voda when their own sites are present. Identical phone model, just different network. One or two situations may be a coincidence but when it happens too often, one gets suspicious
johnr:Do you mean repeaters or new cell sites? They are very different
Well I assume they are new cell sites because they are located in different positions. But regardless of what they are, it is a distinctive difference in attitude between Vodafone who hasnt responded at all to folks at Waihi Beach asking for years for improved GSM service and 2degrees the new player responding to customer needs promptly.
What's a worry is that Vodafone have acquired Telstraclear who have up to now provided excellent Phone/Broadband service for us here. I have no confidence in Vodafone, due to personal experience over several years with many issues. Regards, Al.
