adw: Absolutely, no Gold Support, they're not honouring their commitments.  Apparently they sent an email out at the beginning of this year changing their hours but they didn't specifically mention the withdrawal of Gold Support - was a surprise to us too.  In this they allegedly offered $1000 if you wanted to move and close your account - they really don't seem to have any commercial understanding of the work involved in moving sites, databases and the inconvenience to our clients of then having to change email programmes on PCs, phones, etc.

I remember an email about the support hours changing.

Yes, it would be a nightmare for us to move our hosting.  We have about 160 domain names in our HMC account, some of them just parked and some sites have more than one domain pointing to them.  About 80 odd actual websites.

Maybe it might be worth setting up some sort of informal "iServe Users Group"?  We could use it to keep in touch and share problems.  Would be handy to know if we were the only ones experiencing a problem or if it was more widespread.  This forum is ok and I keep an eye on it for iServe related matters, but it's a shame that iServe is lumped in with general Orcon ISP stuff.

Maybe Geekzone could list the Iserve queries separately under the Iserve/Orcon forum...

mattwnz: The servers look to be down at the moment. Nothing on their status page, and I have noticed that the gold support txt system appears to have been removed from the control panel.

Yes, they were up and down last night both the windows server and the PHP 4 server.

Has anyone noticed that if you disable a domain in the console it still serves?

I just tried disabling a domain and when I went to access it I received a 403 Forbidden error.  So looks like it's working ok to me.

Interesting, have several that still serve when disabled.  Did you have content in it or was it the default index.php page?

There was content.  Maybe your browser or ISP had cached the website and was serving that up to you?

Was also the php 5 server. Still awaiting a reply from my support ticket to them to find out what happened, but no mention on their status page for the outage.
I am still waiting for them to get php 5.3 installed, as most CMSs now need that as a minimum, and part of the life plan terms, was that it would be kept up to date with the newest technologies such as the newest versions of php.

Ah, you're another Life Plan user as well?  I always wondered how many of us there were!

In the old days iServe would have given us a detailed description of what the problem was and what they were doing to prevent it happening again.  I always thought this frank openness was refreshing and I applauded them for it.  Unfortunately that seems to have gone out the window with Orcon.

Thanks but no it's not cached, it's serving.  They're all sub domains so maybe that is the issue but it's never been one before - normally you disable them and that's fine but (like sooo many things) not now.

Hi Guys,
Just came across this so wanted to give you an update. Last nights outage was a planned one, part of a migration of the iServe platform onto a more reliable and faster base. The aim of last night's change was to remove approx 24ms of latency between the web and the platform as well as reduce bandwidth consumption on some critical internal links - so all aimed at making things faster and more reliable at the same time.

My apologies that there was a notification on our website, that omission won't happen again.

Regards FireEngine
