Sounddude: This issue has nothing to do with VDSL or DLM. For some reason Bruiser has been provisioned incorrectly on our BNG equipment and has been placed on a ADSL Profile.

We will resolve this first thing in the morning. He should easily get his line speed from local sites.

How often does this happen? This is a fault at the exchange during setup isn't it? ...and hence generally out of your control? I had the same thing happen, but not an ADSL profile for VDSL, and it was the biggest nightmare to fix. That was where my skepticism of being put on "max attainable speed" arose from, because I quickly saw I wasn't. I wonder how many other people aren't, and just don't realise.

Trying to work through with the techies was nigh impossible. "So, your sync speed has dropped from 17Mpbs to 9. Have you tested it running a speedtest whilst connected via ethernet?"

-grrrr why would my sync rate, in my router, have been affected by whether my pc was accessing the stats page via wired or wireless...

/end rant

Apart from this, which I do appreciate can happen when new equipment is being set up (which was the reason behind it), I have been extremely happy with the service orcon has provided and continues to provide, and they would be a contender for top NZ ISP if they could bring there tech support back into NZ(and yes I will continue to drop this in everything I post about you until the powers that be concede! :D   ).

Hi, different issue to what you had I am afraid.

The profile I was talking about sits on our BNG (Customer Terminatation kit) rather than the kit in the exchange. It was shaping is connection to 30mbit as it thought he was a on a ADSL Plan.

This issue was a one off issue. We have confirmed no one else would have experienced this issue

Kudos to Sounddude for his straight-up honest explanation. As an Orcon customer, it is great to see you guys jumping in to get things sorted.

@OP. At least you can feel special as you were the only one selected for this issue!!

Just to round off, we traced the provisioning failure and fixed its root cause so hopefully the OP will be the only one ever to suffer from it :-)

bruizerbg:

I am testing directly connected to the modem using ethernet cable from an Nvidia N-Force Gigabit onboard network adapter.

Well looks like it's been identified as a provisioning error.

My next guess would have been your PC could actually be the limitation if it was older running old OS like xp.
