I dont have a screwdriver that will easily undo these screws. The indented lines are wide and long. I damaged enough screw heads using incrorrect tools in my lifetime to know when its a good idea or not. I think ill regret it less if i waited ^^".
Its this kinda pattern. But much larger than youd expect.

That's a VDSL rated master splitter, and looks to be installed correctly, but can't quite see where all the pairs go from the photo.

Yea sorry about that the only other image i took was:

So with that image, to me, its saying that the orange/white are not connected to anything. Unsure if those  Orange/white ends are from the Cat5 or the Splitter. Regardless of which ends its from, to me, it still equates to the fact that orange/white is unused whether inside or outside. Because as we saw in my earler images inside the jackpoint, only 2 conductors are used, blue/white which the Master Splitter says is used for the Phone. Master splitter also says green/white is used for dsl modem. Yet in the jackpoint there is no green/white conductors terminated.

Could that be a point?

Heres a link to a diagram i found in which the green/white pair are also used(bottom of page) . Not sure if same should apply in my case because of how Orcon sets their system up...

This is physical layer stuff, we reply on Chorus to set every ETP/cable/splitter up the right and same way every time.

You couldn't have different ISPs working on a different physical setup, no-one would be able to move suppliers and Chorus wouldn't have a known setup to troubleshoot...

kinda looks like its been installed correctly.

looks like the tech has taken the easy route, and skipped the installation of the POTS side, since orcons install is naked dsl.

to double check, was this a fresh cable the tech installed there? just doesnt quite make sense, if the cables were all there and waiting, why the tech didnt connect the rest of it.. seems lazy for all of another 5 seconds of putting joiners in.

Yea i watched him run a new cable from the jackpoint to the ETP. If only there were another jackpoint on Orcon VDSL to compare mine to. Just to confirm that only 2 conductors need termination inside =/ . Cant quite shake that part out of my mind ^^". Im probably wrong tho ^^

it should have been connected, but long as im not mixing up the sides of the filter, it will do no harm to your vdsl connection being unconnected. simply means if someone goes to setup POTS, they will have to iver connect it themselves or get another tech in.. so kinda not the state you want techs to leave their work in really.

Be "interesting" if the occupier ever goes back to a POTS service. As I said this isn't under our direction or control. Any shortcuts are entirely of Chorus' own making....

it would be.. techs really need to stop taking shortcuts.

1) The orange pair from the splitter should connect to the incoming line from the street.

2) The green pair from the splitter will connect to the xDSL jackpoint - in your case it looks like the installer has used the blue pair in the cat5 cable to the jack - that's fine, as the blue pair is normally connected to those pins in the jackpoint. You should see scotchlocks joining the green and blue pair at the ETP

3) Blue pair from the splitter connect to the POTS (normal phone outlets). If you have no outlets, this may not be connected.

4) It's likely the disconnected orange pair you can see in the photo is one of the 3 unused pairs from the cat5 (orange, green, brown) - nothing to worry about.

On the face of, the install looks like a good one - not to say there isn't a loose connection somewhere, but visually everything looks OK.

Yes, only two conductors (1 pair) are needed for the VDSL signal in that dedicated jack. If it was wired as part of a structured cabling system then all four pairs should be connected, but in this case as a dedicated xDSL jack, only the 1 pair is required.

Difficult to tell if the POTS side has been connected when looking at those photos. Pretty unlikely it hasn't been given the rest looks good, but really need the OP to confirm if the blue/white pair from the splitter is connected to the original house wiring.
