Android people probably shouldn't just rely on the inbuilt data management. I found out this the hard way too.
I have "3g watchdog" also installed and it tracks every data connection. Sometimes the inbuilt one doesn't. It also has an icon that can be set to only show on mobile data and then will let you know if you've dropped off wifi etc.

I always find it interesting that its someone else s fault when something we have or do goes wrong. Why abdicate our own responsibility to manage what we have to a company, I was given choice with Telecom on going to casual data or have a limit, it was clear and concise and I made my choice how is it you can sign up for something and not read the terms regardless of whether its deemed fair or not it isn't forced on us.

I am pleased you brought up the examples of leaving the water running, or leaving the heater on.  I wasnt aware that power companies or councils increased the price per unit by 2500% when you left them on.  I dont thinks thats fair, and would love to know how telcos can justify that.

Depends on where you live but if you are connected to "The lines company" electricity network. That can actually happen. (don't know about 2500% though)

In short they monitor both your total usage and how quickly you use it - use alot of power in a short time and your bill goes up. Sometimes for the whole year based on just 1 days usage if you are very unlucky.

Its how telcos make money. They need some way to build those expensive towers you rely on so much. Its the hidden costs that can make them big $
