dan: I was also disappointed to find that i was going to sign up some Whangaparoa customers to you guys on ADSL last week, yet you guys want for a 2 year contact, 249$ for the 7390 and still 499$ ETC, crazy. they have now gone to telecom. dont get greedy snap.

That appears incorrect. Here are their current ADSL prices, for an address in Wanganui. It is pretty high, and I wonder why they're cheaper on UFB than ADSL.

I really dont know what SNAP are thinking when they do things like this unfortunately, and its disappointing because ive sent a lot of connections their way.

Presumably getting bulk hardware from Germany costs a fair bit more than it does from China. IMO the Fritzboxes are far too overpriced for what they provide. It doesn't affect me as I'm using my own router/modem, but an expensive router when other ISPs give theirs out for free is unfortunately a bit of a hurdle when recommending Snap.

i have no issue buying my own router, i never used an ISP router until my linksys died on me and everyone were recommended fritzboxes (i just purchased one directly from snap).

but if you sign up for a 24month contract vs no contract, there should be some incentive. the $0 or $50 fritzbox was a good one IMO.

The 200mb plan was only offered as a trial, and only in Auckland and Christchurch IIRC?
I imagine the effect on the Snap network of a few users trialling a 200mb plan would pale in comparison to all Snap users suddenly being on unlimited.

It'd be an interesting experiment I suppose. TelstraClear tried it for a weekend a few years ago. It had some rather negative effects on everyone using them for international capacity.
I would think these days most people that want to download a lot are already on an unlimited plan. Eventually people will run out of things to download and their usage will settle. Some will always download as much as they can, because they can. Perhaps even if it's going to /dev/null.

Snap actually started this and ran quite a few Unlimited weekends which from what I recall and the feedback on Geekzone was very successful, it was only the TCL free weekend which bought the cable network to its knees.

The Fritz box's are expensive, just look at the Internode and other AU ISP pricing, presumably since Snap don't have an offering that gives away free cheaper modems then this is a business decision they have made, they will be well aware that other ISP's give away modems, and in some cases a month free. You can't really blame them for that, maybe they are not the target customers Snap is after? their pricing seems to indicate that they are pushing fibre, which would make sense since they don't have LLU.

its you that is incorrect timmay, not sure why you cant understand your own figures you pasted, as they are exactly as i said above for ADSL.

Correct. Unmetered from a billing perspective (we'll never charge for excess usage) and we do have a fair use policy.

If a customer consistently (month after month) uses more than the fair use level and that usage is mainly international and mainly during peak hours, we'll ask they buy a dedicated bandwidth add-on.

Please Snap, Don't introduce unlimited plans. We need an ISP that concentrates on the offering the best speed. Rather than another lowish price but ok / not so good speed ISP. Now that the big players have introduced unlimited plans, no one is going to bother fixing problems with their computers / WiFi that cause high data usage. Also Netflix, iSky ect will probably take off more now. It will mean lots more data used. And more money will need to be spent on network upgrades.

I agree. I get full speed 98% of the time (the other 2%, who knows whose fault that is).

So, rather have speed than unlimited.

To compete I think all ISPs will have to eventually release uncapped plans. It is a race to the bottom. The benefits that the large telcos have ,is that they can bundle other higher margin services with them, so they can almost give away the broadband, pricing the smaller players out of the market, and then bundle higher margin services like mobile plans.

Hi guys

The team at Snap HQ are flat out crunching the numbers - stay tuned!

With regards to the ETCs on the ADSL & Phone service, it does look like this is an error which we'll adjust soon. Certainly the intention is not to be greedy but to make sure each service pays its own way, and this particular service is among our least profitable. Which is why we're so keen to push fibre ;)

Hoperfully we'll have an update for you later this week.
