garvani: Another thing that just came to mind i would love to see from slingshot is a tweak to your global mode. Allowing changes to different regions would be awesome.

So our *ahem* sweedish visitors can access their netflix instead of the American version.

This may not be a trivial task, im guessing the way it works at the moment is through the LA slingshot server.

sweedish netflix????

they can serve Netflix in bloody Sweden but not new zealand?

i thought they only had it in the US!

Netflix is actually planning to launch in NZ and AUS next year - feel sorry for QuickFlix as they're probably going to lose a lot of their customers if they don't step it up.

Netflix actually streams into 43 countries! The major nations have there own version of netflix with different content to each other. From other threads i found that the Sweedish netflix has the best selection of new release movies etc. Uk netflix has a lot of uk programming as you would assume.

Unotelly and unblock.us allow you to easily change the region for netflix, a flick of a button and you have a different catalog of content all from your 1 subscription! So i was thinking it would be awesome if Slingshots global mode had the same feature, as im sure my visitors would appreciate this ;)

As pe alot of the other replies I would like to see better Ultrafast Fibre modem. most people signing up to ufb at this stage are early adopters (read Nerds if you want to)
They probably have gigabit ethernet modems and network connections in their pc's. They are most likely to be interested in streaming movise etc about their homes on the fastest network connections they can. An old out of date N150 modem with 100Mbit Ethernet just doesn't cut it for them   We are being sold the latest and greatest technology (available to most) in NZ but asked to run it on equipment that was bought out overseas 5 years ago

quentinreade: Hi all,
We are def still listening to the suggestions - keep them coming!
Yes - we'll also be looking at what we can do with the new UFB plans.
We'll be migrating (at no cost) everyone on the 30/10 plan to the 100/20 plan for a starter.
The below was announced yesterday.
Cheers, Quentin

Slingshot GM Taryn Hamilton welcomed today’s new Chorus fibre plans which will give ISPs such as Slingshot greater scope to build new and innovative products for its customers. “Slingshot already has the best value fibre plans in the market at $69 but we’ll be doing some work on what these new Chorus plans will mean for our customers in the long-term. “In the meantime we’re going to give all existing customers on our 30Mbps plan, and anyone who signs up to this plan before 1st July, a free upgrade to the 100/20Mbps plan until July 2015.” As well as providing more choices for the telco industry, the new Chorus fibre and VDSL plans are also designed to deliver greater speeds, enhanced HD video capability, and help drive the all-important fibre uptake in New Zealand. “This is a great opportunity to give the UFB initiative a bit of fresh exposure,” says Hamilton. “Slingshot is very keen to see uptake rates significantly improve as it’s a fantastic investment for the country, but only if people are using it.”

I have just read the above statement re the upgrading to the faster 100/30 Fibre speed & seeing that I am still on the 30/10, I phoned Slingshot to ask why.
Slingshot says that it will happen but have no date as to when, yet. Bummer :)

I made a thread about this specific thing earlier. Hoping for a reply from Slingshot/Quentin

A couple of months before I upgraded from ADSL to Fibre with Slingshot, I had bought a new Netgear D6300 modem/router.
I had bought a new Laptop that has the new WI-Fi ac speed. I was using a Netcomm ADSL modem/router prior, that kept on dropping it's WI-Fi signal, randomly.

Another reason is that the D6300 was Fibre ready.
When I upgraded to Fibre ,Slingshot told me I could not use the D6300.

When I asked why not, this was their reply:

"Hi Trevor,Thank you for using Slingshot''s Online Help.

I have spoken to my faults team to get more information regarding your Netgear modem getting online using our Fibre services. There are a couple of reasons why it will not work with our services:

1. Firstly (and probably one of the biggest) we have never tested your modem on our connection and we don''t know how it will handle it.

2. We operate your phone via SIP POTS which we aren''t sure your modem supports.

3. Our modems synchronise to our servers using specific custom firmware which our team pushes through, once you are connected and will only work with our modems.

4. There is a specific serial that our modem holds which our automation will allow to authenticate with the servers. If our server sees a serial that does not match our modems, it will block it from trying to authenticate.

There is probably more complex reasons as to why it wouldn''t work, this is just the generic information I was able to get.

I hope this helps to resolve your query. If it does not, please do not hesitate to reply to this email or to contact us on 0800 89 2000.

Best regards,

Ali Alsaffaf
Team at Slingshot"

I can understand about the phone port as the D6300 does not support that.
I have the WI-Fi turned off in the Slingshot supplied TripplePlay 150 modem/router & connect the D6300 to it, in Access Point mode, using it for the WI-Fi.
That means that I cannot use any of it's 2 USB ports.

Slingshot need to offer upmarket modem/routers, for future upgrading.

Wait... does that mean that Slingshot actively block routers from connecting if they aren't the ones supplied by them? frown

*warms paddles*

bzzz, clear!

Now that I have revived the thread, what about a gaming plan or option?
MR have thus far proved they can lower latency through custom routing.

Would personally pay additional for the feature if Slingshot provided it.

Maybe it is a chargeable feature or maybe not (like global mode).

What about everyone else in the callplus club?
