w2krules: What was the result of the line test?

We have had to escalate the line test to Chorus as the results aren't populating so we haven't been able to effectively run the test yet - sorry should have let you know.

I see your upload has spiked in the last couple of days to 1-2GB from its usual 1-300MB - you might want to check all is good and nothing unintentional going on. If the upload is happening in short max-line bursts (as with file sharing or cloud syncing), then while the upload is maxxed, your downstream performance will be very poor due to the way TCP-IP works.

w2krules: Thanks, I'll check that out.

Ok, Chorus have reset the card involved which has brought the line test results back up, the outcome is the copper is good but there are several bridge taps on the line, Chorus won't remove those as a matter of policy so it looks like the line is as good as it will get.

Thanks. Just looked up bridge taps on Wikipedia. Yuk!

Ping times overseas have been way better this month, plus changing back to the Asus router has helped.

I did find one problem with our Wifi setup. We still have a couple of wireless G devices, including a very old PCI card in my son's gaming PC. I gave him a 5 GHz N card to fit some time ago, but he didn't bother so looks like I'll have to sort it myself as usual.

The Speedtest results for Ethernet and 5 GHz N are very similar but not so good on the 2.4 GHz band, especially if it's a G device!

So just ran a Speedtest to check on performance.

Any ideas why the ping to the Vodafone server is 7 ms when it's 10 to the Orcon server? Seems like it really is a SuperNet!

My line runs at 7.8-7.9Mbps - except on VF where I get 12.09Mbps....draw your own conclusion....caching is going on somewhere methinks....
