Ha, no doesn't help much but I am now extremely green with envy!

Being a technology geek & working in IT I am actually a little depressed about the low speeds to be honest. I have mucked about with my Draytek firmware & got it to connect at 8.3mbps but once you allow for overhead the fastest d/l rate I can get is 650KB/s. This is 40% of what I got at my house in Greenlane.

To make matters worse there are no set dates for a UFB rollout in Torbay so I could be putting up with this until as far as 2020....

Have you done any checks to make sure that the sync rate you are getting is similar to that of your neighbours (to rule out your particular line being dodgy)?

Either ask them directly if you know them well enough or Chorus may be able to tell if that sync rate is normal for the area

The sync rate looks about right for the attenuation but there could be a fault artificially increasing it.

That's the next step for me, thanks.

If my neighbours connect at a higher rate then I'll definitely be back on the phone to Snap to in turn harass Chorus.

I think Torbay will probably get UFB soonish. (like a couple of years?)

VDSL brings overhead down a bit, but I think there's still a distance requirement on it. I'm in Torbay and sync around 19 megabit. So all of Torbay isn't broken :)

I wonder how many people actually know what sync rates their neighbours sync at. My neighbour syncs quite a bit lower than me, but being close to a cabinet it doesn't really matter. Can't Snap just check nearby addresses that they have as customers?

The Chorus guy suggesting you were going through copper injection box and going to the exchange for distance of 1.9km suggests your sync rate is only slightly low for distance, the copper injection box probably compromises the quality a bit, when cabinets have been inbetween before connections are switched over to cabinet it often reduces connection speed quite a lot. by 25 to 50% ime (from only a couple of times though)

Just because you have neighbours with higher sync speed doesn't mean anything can be done to improve yours.

I've seen multiple VDSL2 connections into the same building with wildly different sync rates, and changing MPFs doesn't change anything.

I'm in Torbay (UFB currently going in at the end of my street, but still "No Plans" for me). When we were looking at houses, I had my wife trained to only consider places that had VDSL coverage on the Chorus map :)
I'm also in IT, and working from home... good internet is a must. I get 30-40Mbps sync (with 10Mbps up).
