One thing with all non Chorus LFCs is that the LFC is responsible for configuring the ATA and the ISP is at the mercy of the LFC to make it happen. Thankfully Chorus hand that all off to the ISP by having the ATA boot and need a TR069 ACS server do all the configuration.

The clusterfudges from the LFCs are only due to get worse imho the more people connect. Considering all the backend processes are manual. Human error is high.
Chorus are the most organised by a country mile. But even they make mistakes.

It's going to be a long road ahead before it is anywhere near as robust as copper.

I'm sure they could automate it if they wanted to.  It seems bizzare to me that they haven't.

I'm sure it all comes down to money and time.

I wonder what provisioning delays and stuffups cost them...

My current day job is devops so I see everything slow, manual and unreliable as grist for the mill.

Even a hacky ONT web interface screenscraper would be more reliable and faster than whatever set up my ONT for MyRepublic voice.

No one has direct access into the ONT apart from the LFC. Without maintaining control over the ONT the ISPs or end-customers could cause all sorts of pain which is hardly desirable.

If the non-Chorus LFCs had gone down the same path as Chorus with using ACS/TR069 that would have been nice. That way the ISP is in complete control to mess up the ATA to their hearts content.

Because of the issues with using the LFC ATAs I can only see most ISPs wanting to deliver voice using the RGW / ISP supplied router such as Orcon with their Genius. But that too has all sorts of reliability issues

But UFB is a pretty new product in NZ with less than 100k total on UFB vs 1.6 Million+ on xDSL according to appendix 1 or 1.75Mil or so if you add another 127k for UCLL. Plus with 4 different companies that overlap each other (Chorus only sub-divisions in UFF Fibre areas for example) and 3 different hardware providers being Alcatel (Chorus) Huawei (UFF/Enable and their two ISP portals are completely different even though they use the same equipment) Ericsson (NorthPower) I can see the issues only remaining for some time to come.

I was thinking of this as something the LFC could do.  Maybe Huawei/etc do provide APIs and UFF doesn't use them?

As has already been said ... it will be coming down to money and time.  Keep in mind that Chorus have the benefits of scale AND experience wrt the other LFCs.

I expect they will follow suit and allow for ISPs to auto configure the ONTs via TR069, some B2B API or similar, it won't be an "overnight" thing though.  None of this is as simple as you might imagine.

Was told 1st of Feb would be available but 2nd tier installers (from house to cabinet) found me connected to wrong port in cabinet. We are the very first connection in our area....not a good prognosis.
Rang the day before was told of installation.....no, pushed back by 2 weeks......bugga......terminated my isp, now no phone or internet.
Blowers arrived and connected house to cabinet.
9 days to go....

So I've had a fair read (end to beginning) and I'm fairly confident in saying it sounds like a issue with the LFC's if anything.

However to me it is a little concerning that UFF started off here with responses etc, and being typically involved with 'their' community, and have now gone to ground.
