It's weird that your internet would stop working though, it should still work with the old modem
You just might not get to Utalise the full speed of the connection.

Rambaldi: Download and upload

Just got off the phone with Orcon, it is actually 1000MBps download and 500MBps upload, key work is "up to" so as fast as your connection to your house/business supports it.

Also they say that you will require a new Genius modem and that your current one will not be compatible.

I was just quoting exactly what they told me on the phone.

So maybe it's another case of they don't know what they are selling again, as with what happened with the 200MBps plans laughing

Personally I won't be going for it, it's seldom I use my current 200/200 plan to it's full potential, due to links out of NZ being slow and other servers not being able to provide enough bandwidth.

Not to mention not having phone and/or internet for a few days due to changing the modem, no one wants to deal with that again.

However in a business environment with more than 1 person using the internet at a time it would obviously make sense to keep your internet as fast as possible at all times.

So fibre wasn't working when I got home from work today.  Did all the usual checks and restores, no change.  Rang Orcon, 1st level know jack all as usual.  I suspect what's happened is my connection has been upgraded to gig prematurely and because I haven't received the modem yet I can't use it.  Very disappointing given I was assured on the phone by Orcon Sales that this wouldn't happen.  The usual story with Orcon though, I don't use them for the customer service.

I think I've just responded to your DM on Twitter. Long story short, the Netcomm should still work, and a fault has been raised with Chorus on this one.

dt:

A note to Orcon as well, your "terms and conditions" IVR at the contact center still states an ETF of between $149 and $199.

Can you please send me a PM with some more details? Where exactly in the IVR does it say this - what number did you call etc. Much appreciated!

It's 1000Mbps down, 500Mbps up (not MBps).

If you can remember who you spoke to (even what number you called), or if you're a customer, can you send me a PM with some details? Obviously important that we aren't giving out wrong info... cheers.

Yup thanks, which is why I said afterwards that I've let Orcon off the hook for this one ;)

Argh and while I have a dialtone, I can't ring anyone. I put in the numbers then it makes the noise like theres no such number, for any number I dial, including Orcon's :P Should I do myself a favour and unplug this modem since it clearly hasn't been setup right ?

I can now make calls. Tech support are seeing my speeds at 1000/500 but I'm getting 100/30. They got me to try a bunch of things that didn't change anything, than told me to believe in the power of magic and it will be 1000/500 within 24 hours, and to call back if it isn't.

Starting to regret moving to Orcon, i was quite happy with Bigpipe, they also told me to restart my modem and ONT. obviously that didnt helped.

Cheers

If they believed the "magic" then why ask you to call back if it hasn't changed?

Orcon now into magic and probably voodoo no doubt, glad I'm leaving this behind...
