sign: If it makes you feel any better I am having a very similar problem with 2degrees gigabit fiber plan. I seem to be stuck on my old speed profile of 200/20. Nothing has seem to fix it despite many calls to 2degrees, running through all the same trouble shooting with a new call rep. Chorus have even checked the cabinet up the road. At a lost really. Considering changing providers to see if that fixes anything.

I will be calling to change tomorrow.

Where is your ONT located?

In a cabnet?

On the wall?

In the roof?

if its in a confined space maybe its overheating?

Definitely isn't over heating. It's in the garage on the wall, completely open.

Have you tried it by doing a PPPoE connection from a pc/laptop with a gig card directly to port 1 on the ONT. To ensure its definitely connecting at 1000mbps to the ONT.

Then doing a speed test once that has confirmed. Otherwise we can only speculate.

Not all laptops are capable of gig, and laptops that are capable often have software that's not. It's incredibly difficult to be confident that a given machine is capable of gigabit...

I have an Intel i7-2600K with Intel chipset gigabit ethernet port with latest drivers and I can get 930+Mbps on speedtest, but an iperf test shows sub-optimal behaviour on single thread performance.

I also have an Odroid C2 (like a raspberry Pi but 300% more kickass) and it however DOES give expected wonderful results on my Fibre MAX lines...

My i5 Tablet with gigabit ethernet over USB3 only gives 600ishMbps on speedtest.

What does this mean?

In most (not a few, not some, but MOST) of the cases where users have reported that their 'gigabit' connections weren't working to spec, it was their router, their network or their PC that was at fault. At the moment it's something like 10-12 cases I have looked at myself and only 1 was network related.

I also have a 740Mbps DIFFERENCE between a speedtest.net result between Chrome and Firefox on my i7 pc.

[ps. That said, checking the negotiated port speed from the ONT by connecting directly and looking at the ethernet link properties is a good move]

Hi Kopkiwi,

Can you please message us with your address and broadband customer number, as well as the serial number from your ONT?

By the sounds of things, the ONT isn't negotiating the right speed on the port, and we can get Enable to check this out for you. Sounds as though excluding any damage to the ports, you've ruled out it being a physical problem (as long as the port on your router isn't limited to 100Mbps somehow)

Do you still have a router supplied by us at all? this could be a good option to eliminate your router as a potential cause int he meantime.

@Talkiet all what you said shoulnt matter as all the op is trying to do is work out where the 100mbit bottle neck is and replace what ever it is thats causing the issue.

the laptop is connecting at 1gbps so its safe to say it will transfer faster than 100mbps so its fine to use to test directly into the ONT with a PPPoE session

That's to be expected. The device connected to the ONT needs to be set with the same settings your router does. This is VLAN 10 tagged PPPoE, with your 2dg username and password. Not all NICs can do the VLAN tagging though.

From your other post saying you're getting 300/250 now though, this eliminates the need to check whether or not the connection between your router and the ONT is 1Gbps.

Getting 300/250 indicates there's no longer a 100Mbps link somewhere between the ONT and your PC. The issue however could still be in many places: Your PC, your router, the ONT (depending where in NZ you are), the backhaul from the LFC to 2degrees, something with 2degrees itself, or the speedtest.net server you're using. Considering the Asus router you've mentioned looks to be pretty well specced, I'd be pointing my finger at your PC at this stage. Not all computers can handle gigabit. This is especially true of laptops.

Also just to confirm, do you have your Asus router connected straight to the ONT, or do you still have a Fritzbox somewhere in the mix?

I'm having the same type of issue went from getting ~950 Down and ~530 up, Now I'm only getting ~400 Down and ~400 up

Just some inside info how the enable network is setup. The total bandwidth downstream is 2.5g and upstream is 1.5g divided between 24 customers. All service is a best case and you are only guaranteed 2.5mb so if you have 8 people on gig plans downloading heavily you will all struggle to get your max speed. It's a shared medium much like HFC (Vodafone cable)

Chorus UFB uses GPON as well. The number of ONTs per OLT may be different, depending on the area though.

I was aware of that but I've spoken with others in the area and no one else has had the same issues I have.
