@JasonParis should this speed restriction be in place when 2degrees customers are roaming onto the VodafoneNZ 3G network?

 

If it's part of a commercial agreement between 2degrees and VodafoneNZ for national roaming then all good :)

 

Just would like some clarification

My wife's WarehouseMobile (MVMO running on 2D) suddenly started getting 8Mbps down, 2Mbps up yesterday (until yesterday, it's been 300Kbps down/600Kbps up). My pay monthly 2D still stuck on 300Kbps. So there's something funky going on.

 

So, in my view, the only two possibilities now are:

 

* @2deegreescare have a technical issue that they are unable to fix, or the reports are not getting through to the right department

 

* @2deegreescare purposefully throttle downlink to 300kbps, to avoid excessive charges while roaming on VF, without publicly admitting it.

 

The core issue here is that not being upfront with your customers is deceitful. I am stuck in a place where 2D doesn't have their own network, full bars on Spark or VF, there was absolutely no reason for me to believe that my data connection will drop to such slow speeds, as the coverage is excellent. No fine print, no large print, no distinction on their coverage maps - nothing to warn me about this at all. And after contacting them, they are not owning up to it at all.

 

I'm still paying the same as I was when I was in 2D zone. I'm still getting the same data rollover, but I can't use it. In fact, I cannot use my 2D data for my normal daily activities, which involve remote support, video conferencing and streaming, as the connection is too slow for that. So my 18GB of rollover data that I collected over the last year is absolutely useless to me now.

 

To download a 500mb file I need today, it would take me 5 hours, all going well. I can't work with that.

 

I've been with 2D mobile since the beginning. 10 years now. I moved by broadband to 2D 4 years ago, when they bought Snap Internet. I've been happy with their Kiwi service and they have been upfront up till now. I now have bittersweet feelings about this relationship, as I'm finalising moving to Spark or VF.

It has been confirmed to me a speed restriction is in place on Download speed for 2degrees customers roaming onto the VodafoneNZ network

Thanks!  I just wish they'd own up to their dilemma of offering way too much data to their customers without having the appropriate infrastructure. I guess they're trying to be competitive in today's market, but if they can't deliver on their promise, then that's it. It would be as easy as 1. telling the people about the restrictions on roaming straight up, and reflecting that on the coverage maps to be transparent and honest - like the old 2degrees used to be. At least I would've been able to make plans to cater for that, instead of being taken by surprise, and then lied to by their support staff.

Their coverage map is super overstated too. According to their map, you should get full 4G coverage across Ruapehu. Don’t know how that’s possible when 1) they don’t have their own infrastructure and 2) can only access voda’s 3G network

Never noticed that one... @saltyNZ Probably shouldnt over estimate the coverage THAT much. is bad where i live too..
