Ha, got that email at about the same time I posted here!
Install date is set for 29th. To be fair I'll probably see the Modem by Thursday this week. Couriers are pretty quick here.
Donald.
Haha that is usually the way.
Once you get the modem, send me a private message with your account number and I can reschedule the order for that day (as long as it is 4 hours before the close of business mind you).

Can you take advantage of the Orcon Geekzone deal if you're already an existing Orcon customer? I called them a couple of weeks ago to see if I could switch to their current "new customer" offer of $99.95/month with 3-pack of Google Mesh Wi-Fi for free and they said No, it was ONLY for new customers. We have been with Orcon for 16 years and currently pay $124/month for unlimited Gigabit fibre and they just said "add the Google mesh to your current plan for an extra $15/month". If I did that, I'd be paying $139/month for the same thing they'll give a new customer for $99!!! They don't look after their loyal customers. So . . . . anyone know if I can get a better Orcon deal as an existing customer, or if I switch ISPs, can I take my Orcon email address with me? It would be a right royal hassle to change our email address on hundreds of things so I am loathe to switch, but not happy about how Orcon treats its long term customers.

Orcon emails used to be for life.... I don't know if that is still the case. My wife still uses one and is not an Orcon ISP user.

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

I was in a similar situation as you but was already on a $139 package for what a new customer would be paying $99
You can switch to their $99 package just not get the google wifi, they gave me a $99 goodwill credit because of this.
I didn't actually need google wifi so the credit worked out better for me anyways

No, perks like that are gone.
Since Orcon doesn't offer mailboxes to their new customers I would say they're angling to get out of mail sooner or later.
They, like other ISPs , seem to have forgotten what the 'S' in ISP stands for :-(
No Usenet, no email, no global mode........
Jun 22, 2019 - Orcon no longer offers free email mailboxes to new customers. If you have an existing Orcon email mailbox this will remain free of charge as long as you have an active dial up or broadband connection with Orcon

Your issue seems to be less around the S and more about the P or lack of it compared to a few years ago.
No, it's related to the 's' since that means 'service' as in email service, usenet service etc.
All the 'P's are going/gone the same way so I know a moan won't change anything except remind everyone how it used to be (Back in my day.....)

Using current customer base to $subsidize$ new customers has to be the dumbest strategy imaginable in our wonderfully competitive marketplace. I wonder if its even legal nowadays? Overseas....?
Hrrrummff....

Yup that is right, our system will set a date a few days out for the modem to arrive.
Once that is confirmed you'll get a text and email confirmation.
No problem at all - if you need further help or clarification at all, just let me know.
Matt
For those of us on Spark and have to give 30 days notice to change over, if we were to sign up and nominated a date 30 days out would you still send a request to shift services as soon as the order is placed or on day 30?
Their T&Cs say the 30 days start when the requesting ISP put in the request to move services.
So I was pretty anxious about switching back to Orcon after my terrible terrible experience many years back (Would make ANYTHING I've seen written and experienced with Vodafone sound like a walk in the park), but due to the excellent interactions of @mattegreen here, the feedback from others and general investigations, I decided to take the plunge. So far it's well exceeded my expectations with contact same day as was promised and my initial dealings being super quick, efficient and really, beyond my expectations in all the right ways. I have an inspection date of a week from now and install 5 days later, and if they meet that, I'll be beyond impressed. The person who called me was even able to spell my name without help and was super quick to check on any questions I had too.
Easily the best ISP signup experience I've had, and I have pretty high expectations so well done to Orcon. Also, it's an unbelievable deal to boot.

Lol. Making introductory offers illegal. That's funny. Equally if you think that overseas markets are different...
New Zealand has a fabulous telco market. Most overseas countries are worse, and in some cases much much worse.
In Dubai I pay around NZD$200 per month for 80Mb down. Gigabit starts at around NZD$1000 a month.
