If it’s too cheap why are they lowering the price of the 1Gbp/s plans and only increasing the lower ones.

Because the fixed price is a large portion of the cost of having fiber. When its crippled to lower speeds it doesnt actually lower the cost of providing it that much.

Worst is that some no good regulations come in and the market gets horribly distorted like they have done to the power market with forcing the lower user plans that drop the daily prices and up the unit prices.

There have actually been yearly price increases on lower speed UFB plans since 2014ish that have not been passed on every year by RSP's

Pass on $1 or $2 to the retail customer and look at the cry babies that come out of the wood work

If RSPs were less inept at providing meaningful value or any sort of differentiation then they could charge more. Instead they just compete on price. Bad luck for them, good luck for consumers.

But that's because consumers are making decisions based on price - you only need to look at the numbers of posts on here from people wanting to switch providers because they might save small amounts that might only be a couple of dollars per month.

Some consumers will change from a perfectly good reliable ISP to another to save $1 a month

Just to be clear - the reason for my original post was to find out if the increase was specifically for me or a general increase. It was not a complaint about the increase.

Having been an Orcon customer for over 12 years, from the days when there were no minimum service contracts, I ran into the following in 2019/20: Upgrade to Fibre - impose contract period, move address : extend contract period, move address : extend further, upgrade to Fibre: extend again. Time to move to another contract-free provider so I am off to Voyager.

Sure. Consumers are buying a commodity. They can buy effectively the same product from many different providers. While some offerings are better than others I'm very sure that most consumers wouldn't notice any difference in their internet between My Republic and Voyager.

There is basically no differentiation in RSP offerings so it comes back to price. If an RSP can demonstrate more meaningful value then consumers would buy it. They don't so bad luck for them.

USENET servers, for example. Orcon no longer even offers email to new customers. Global mode/DNS.

ISPs now (mostly) only offer internet connections, not internet services.
