I appreciate you checking, however I need to be precise about the timeline. I ran this exact test two days ago using identical parameters — resolver 8.8.8.8, same hostname — and received a clear NXDOMAIN response. Today it resolves to 118.149.14.20, which is identical to the proprietary address epdg.ims.2degrees.net.nz — the same gateway, just now accessible via the standard GSMA address.

I've independently confirmed UDP 500 and 4500 both succeed on the standard address — again pointing to the same infrastructure.

However VoWiFi still fails to complete on my device on 2degrees despite DNS now resolving and both IKE ports responding. The barrier remains at the authentication layer. A $2 SIM and I am up and running on another carrier straight away.

Something changed between two days ago and today. I'll leave the timing and conclusions to others to consider.

@andyit, months back, I found 2degrees' VoWifi a bit unreliable.  Sometimes it works, sometimes don't.

Lately it is more reliable.

There was a time (few weeks back), I made it work again by:

  • turn wifi calling on
  • turn wifi on (at that point few weeks back, VoWifi did not work)
  • turn mobile data off
  • turn GPS / location on
  • wait for a minute or so
  • and then restart the phone

I need to have GPS turned on when I restart the phone, otherwise VoWifi would not work (back then).

You may want to give it a try.  :)

@AKLWestie What the!! I have used Wi-Fi calling since the day it went live for customers late 2017 and I can only think of 2 - 3 outages during this time

Never had to do the steps or anything close to make Wi-Fi calling to work on 2degrees and I have used it around the world

Well, we didn't just add it during the day, I assure you...

Maybe not but then again you don’t operate that domain (though you might be able to make changes there). It definitely changed. Welcome in any case as it hopefully helps someone in future.

I was unsure if my "un-approved" Motorola moto g05 would work on 2degrees, but it seems to work ok.

It is on the supported list for other carriers though.

I see a udp 4500 port connected to epdg.epc.mnc024.mcc530.pub.3gppnetwork.org in the router for both the 2degrees phones in the house.

So apparently, I need to eat my words -- it in fact was missing, it was added during the day (!) and they didn't post it in our core team chat ... Anyway, enjoy. 🤣

I see both epdg.epc.mnc097.mcc466.pub.3gppnetwork.org and epdg.ims.2degrees.net.nz being queried and resolved on my Mi 11 Lite 5G, but VoWiFi is still not working, guess there are other factors involved.

Well, epdg.epc.mnc097.mcc466.pub.3gppnetwork.org isn't us. We are 53024.

Probably a white label roaming eSIM although I thought most were data-only?

Thinking back to that thread about the French roaming provider, maybe instead of 3 mobile carriers all on Nokia end users should just have choice between 3 core networks choose the best one that fits your device interoperability.

So does this mean I should try a 2degress sim in my old phone again and it might work now?
