nahh, no 3g from them here. Had to knock the phone back to dual mode since it didnt seem to want to go onto vodafone 3g with roaming... Good 2g signal here - not as good as voda but since I can see one of their sites across the harbor thats to be expected - no XThandset to compare it with but it seems much better then telecom CDMA. Will be interesting to see how it goes at tech tomorrow since voda is very good there with both 2g and 3g at my end of campus - 3g is hopeless at the other end and 2g is pretty crap inbuilding but they are old brick buildings so guess its to be expected to suck.

no texts yet and the vodafone sim has to go back in so I can get calls in the morning... Will update if anything else happens of interest but think thats about it.

You said you got several SIM's, so have you tried calling one of the other 022 numbers to see if price is still same?

Ok, well I put the sim back in this morning and tried to make a call and its now blocked, I had a couple of texts come thru - one from zonic and one from 2degrees saying its in the test environment so now suspended and will be reactivated at launch. couldnt check balance, couldnt reply to zonic's text, incoming call worked when I tried it.

Never got around to testing data on it, I dont know if the little antenna symbol changes to something else at standby or not, but it just shows the normal gsm symbol on it.

That's the point of a mobile operator, isn't it? To get everyone talking...

But I still think people are jumping the gun a bit. Just remember, if you will, the "Vodafone + iPhone 3G price announcement" expectations and let-downs.

Just play it safe, and wait until they announce the plans before we start bashing (or praising).

I completely agree with you mate, the network is not officaly out yet nor are the prices.

That's the point of a mobile operator, isn't it? To get everyone talking...

Haha lol. That is a great line. I need to rememeber that line for the launch!

Does seem a bit strange you'd receive Giraffes and lions with free coffees, clearly this make no sense and cannot be the final product nor the final pricing.

Unless Zimbabwe is trying to raise some money....and we all know where Econet came from. :)........I wonder if my dog would mind sharing his kennel with a lion.
