Isn't it *100#1#?  Or does *100*1# work too?  I love *100#1# btw! :)

Weeeell, the 3GPP Technical Specification says, in a nutshell, that the digits in the middle of the string must be "*". It just so happens that our USSD gateway, and most handsets, also cope with "#" in the middle.

So - *100*1# is compliant with 3GPP TS22.030 and TS22.090, but *100#1# mostly works anyway. They both do the exact same thing.

You cannot hope to be even close to as TOTALLY AWESOME as me unless you memorise at least one TS a day.

Or, in other words, I was eventually forced to dig them up after we found some entire classes of handset would choke on *100#1# but were fine with *100*1#.

Seriously though, if you're having trouble sleeping, read a Technical Specification.

So would you assume that most of the people who setup the network have all been doing this for the competitors? Would be intresting as many of the trade secrets would be widly known within each organisation. NDA's aside, people will spill the info.

I suppose Merketing and price points would be the areas that are most at heart.

Why would you want to run it over GPRS? And on Vodafone?

Apart from the obvious public relations people on here the rest of the people from the Telcos are generally on the technical side of things. We all know each others networks pretty well, its not really a secret as we all have to share information to know how to interconnect, where to route traffic etc.
The Marketing and Sales info is where all the secret stuff is and they will try and defend that info to the death.

We try not to fall victim to one of the classic blunders:

  1. Never get involved in a land war in Asia

  2. Never go up against a Telco when death is on the line
