langi27: Anyone else seeing 3G?

I'm out in Rolleston - I don't even get EDGE out here - so no 3G for me at the moment.

Does that mean 2degrees don't have a tower out here (and I'm roaming on VFNZ?) or they don't have EDGE available on all their towers?

C'mon 2degrees, it's 'The Town of the Future'! Tongue out

Initial speed test from mobilespeedtest.com, showing 1MB download in 19.96 seconds 400kbps, latency 0.92 seconds.

This website is likely way offshore, but local sites such as nzherald, stuff and trademe are blindly quick and icon changes from 3G to 3.5G.

Cool.

So jealous, might have to find an excuse to drive into CHC and experience the speed thrills of 3G/3.5G.

I have been carrying a handset around and have not seen this ellusive new fangled 3G thing yet.

When I turn the device on it shows [H] for a few seconds then disconnects from the network. When it connects again it goes straight to Edge...

But fear nothing. It will come.

That's what a decent backbone can offer... I dont expect amazing speeds from their 3g service, but just better than EDGE.

900 or 2100?  Those people who have imported Android fones from European  or Asia that only have 3G on the 2100 band which is what 2D is going to use may find themselves out of luck if roaming to VF is on the 900 band only..

ok last test, this is starting to cost me money.

Just did Vodafone Speed test and hit 1.3Mbit/s.

I'm pretty impressed 2Degrees well done.

I was roaming on 2degrees 3G (with HSPA, apparently) in Auckland and Wellington for the last few days very happily.  Speeds were very quick especially considering I was roaming.

That said I've been seeing 3G on 2degrees roaming for quite a while...

I seriously doubt 3G roaming on Vodafone will be limited to 900MHz.  Most likely it will use all of what Vodafone use since for the most part, outside of the 3 large metro areas, Vodafone use 2100 in towns and 900 for regional.

Having said that, I would always recommend a 900/2100 phone over 2100-only simply as a way to future proof yourself to 2degrees future expansion plans.

I use SpeedtestX HD (http://www.veeapps.com) for my speed tests - iPad native.

iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!

These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

One more post - and that's to try out streaming video over 2degrees 3G.

It definitely is able to sustain a good 1mbps feed - it had mild stuttering (you can see it dropping out there), but it's definitely watchable.
