Unless your paying for and have a SLA with CIR bandwidth then everyone needs to quite down. Telecom hand you over to slingshot at 45k IIRC from there you have slingshot taking the approach of not buying much international and counting on caching systems.
Also international bandwidth isn't cheap, you can get it $100/mbit for decent volumes, dip's down to close to $75/mbit for ALOT but even so your 10-15mbit dsl line can chew up 10 times more traffic in terms of cost than you pay for
Also for a $1k a month connection I'd be complaining about 1mbit to CA
