Slingshot Admin said on their forums that they're working on the problem but have no time line on how long it will take...

National speeds seem to be a lot better tonight but international is still terrible for me.

Like some others, I've had terribly slow speeds from Slingshot all year. While occasionally we were able to get c. 6MB/sec during off-peak times, for much of the day we have been getting well under 1MB/sec. It's been so bad we haven't been able to, for example. watch TVNZ on Demand for months (well, during the evening - who's going to watch it in the middle of the day?).

Slingshot never gave me any sense the issue was being taken that seriously - the best they could suggest was filing a report via their website.

A solution to the problem was finally offered when the Orcon junk mail turned up in the box, offering a decent package in our area for $70 (telephone and full-speed ADSL up and down, as well as a choice of an add-on included in the price - we went with 30GB data).

Transferred as soon as we could and the best decision we ever made re internet. Even in the three days we've had it it's revolutionised our internet usage. While our speeds aren't mind-blowing (5.5-6MB/sec), they are CONSTANT ALL-DAY, even at peak times! So not only are Orcon's prices better, the speed is totally acceptable.

My suggestion to those with poor speeds from Slingshot is to try out the competition. esp. if offers such as Orcon's "best deal ever" are available (not in all areas, I understand - it's not available to my sister within the same city as me). Slingshot's speeds are pathetic, their service is crud, and their opting out of the TDR scheme dodgy. I'm proud to call myself an ex-Slingshot customer!

Almost 1 week now with abysmal, near useless speeds! Slingshot response:

"We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this issue."

My "patience" is good for a few hours of useless internet, not a week! What a pathetic company. I'm going Orcon but will no doubt get pinged over breaking my slingshot contract.

in my opinion the speedtests are only telling part of the picture, currently using slingshots own speedtest it claims a current speed of 2.5Mbps, which i think in my personal opinion is being very deceptive for when data volume required for legitimate data such as streaming audio and video and other file downloads the ACTUAL true download rate has consistently sohwn me that the allowed speed is between 2 and 4 times dial up speed no where near equates to high speed nor full speed service and as such i think the cost of the service should be reduced to reflect that. Also from my experience of slingshot and of the posts on this forum that both poor service, speeds and internal confusion at slingshot are not a new occurrence, not long ago one of slingshots executives were in the paper after their mobile phone number was discovered and i think the articlle said something along the lines of service is improving, i would like to have such an experience or a refund.

ok, just signed up with Orcon's "Best Deal Ever", and it's also $35 cheaper than Slingshot for more features and data. Wish I had known about this a while back..

Now I just have to wait a few days for hookup.

hookup is scheduled for the 20th, I'll post speedtests before and after. Here is my current fs/fs slingshot to the USA. Slingshot is still broken for almost a week now. :/

Remember, some of us have "enjoyed" these speeds from Slingshot for ages - in our case, all of this year! Here's hoping a new ISP solves this problem for you, too. It's great to be free of Slingshot. It's also nice to talk to helpdesk staff that are helpful and engaged.

Speeds are a alot better for me today, getting 6 Mb/s for national speeds which is the fastest i've had for a long time.

(Note: I live semi-rurally on a ADSL1 connection and have never been able to get any more than about 6.5 mb/s)

my connection speed on the modem says 8000 down 700-800 up
but according to the speed test
down speed were no more then 2mb

am i supposed to say this is good?

Friday and saturday were fantastic for me, over 12megabit on torrents right up till the 1am connection cull, sunday and monday nights have been total crap with it barely pushing 3 megabits across everything I am trying to do, FTPs were running 10 of them at 7kB/sec before at about 11pm. Total joke again.

I think they must have some bandwidth they push around the place to make people think its ok or that its just the vaugeness of internet and not slingshot just not having enough international to provide what people expect.
