Yes, it's live. But they are not announcing it openly. If you go to their page, they still say "coming soon" and here on Geekzone they say they can't guarantee free traffic until full.

Splatty: Hi XPD, I'm not going to go into debate on this forum about legal issues but will say that to the "average" person, who is the target of the recent push to get customers (Genius is smart and easy, just plug it and away you go etc), the headline advertising may be seen as misleading, which is in breach of section 6.1 of the Fair Trading Act. Similar to getting someone into a store for a special offer but there are conditions attached to the purchase.

Whilst Orcon quantify that one should check that the "Orcon Games Banner" is displayed it does not give any instruction on how you check this.

Cheers

Sadly it's not as easy as it sounds to lock customers on to one particular content server, nor is it to track which server is serving the content.  (unless you track netstat etc, but like you said, not for you average user).

It's a value add that Orcon thought would be a nice gesture to its gaming customers.  If there's too much negative feedback/fallout, It'll just get removed.

As for Genius..... there's a reason it's the first mass-market product like it, and other providers have kept their offerings relatively small/niche.   It's hard to support.

It's up, it's serving traffic, people will expect it to be.

They can't even guarantee it to be free when it is full, it's out of their control and sadly that's just the way Steam works.

I'd be very surprised if anyone starts ponying around the word "guarantee" in relation to this service.

Like I mentioned before, it's a (free) value-add.

The O zone is promoted as a perk of moving to Orcon. Steam is a data hog - we all know that, and the addition of Steam to the O Zone was a major contributing factor in my decision to change ISPs. To remove it would remove the reason many have changed to Orcon.

Orcon should just remove references to "free steam" and have it as a added bonus that the average joe doesn't know is happening. I can just foresee a lot of crying about charged data, in fact it has already started.

Apparently they're only half way there. Not sure why they advertised such a service when there's only a 50% chance of it not being metered....

A lot of people are going to get burned.

So far Ive downloaded Counterstrike Source, CS:S Beta, Team Fortress 2, started getting Left For Dead 2 via the Orcon Steam server, all free data and good speeds.

You can see here (http://games.orcon.net.nz/index.php?page=steam_content) which games are suppose to be available on the Orcon server.

If your data is not coming up as being "free", then Id assume youre getting something which isnt cached yet.
