How you going to get you PS3/Apple TV/GoogleTV to work via a VPN if it does not support it?

True you dont need any extra hardware if you happy using your PC

To be fair, in the context of this discussion his point was entirely valid IMHO. In my original posts I indicated that I only wanted the traffic from my Revue to go over the VPN, not ALL traffic. Therefore I do need a router capable of separating out the traffic and DD-WRT is only firmware I am aware of that can do this.

Hell, my statment was directed around SumnerBoys requirements and questions.
Next time I will proof read my post before submitting, and maybe add the fine print - My post as stated is just my opinion

BraaiGuy: In my (probably slightly biased) opinion:

Unblock-US Pros:
- Possibly faster than VPN solutions as its unencrypted traffic.
- Its slightly cheaper
- No extra hardware required

Unblock-US Cons:
- Not a VPN solution. Unsecured connection. Your ISP can inspect/shape traffic.
- Still unsure if Netflix really works.
- Loose all your caching
- US only

Actually, re the "US Only" part - I use unblock-US for both iPlayer and ITV and it works 100% (I use Telecom as my ISP and have the unblock DNS servers set on my Untangle gateway so all users benefit)

I have been using HideMyAss since September last year to watch Hulu; netflix etc and listen to spotify, pandora etc.
I can set it up on android phone too which is a bonus.

So do you route ALL your traffic through the VPN? I have just setup Astrill for a trial week and installed DD-WRT on my router, which means I can control which devices use the VPN and which don't. E.g. I have my Revue as the only device using the VPN and can watch Netflix etc as a result.

Pretty happy with the speed and setup so now it is just a matter of whether I think the cost is worth it...

I turn it on when ever I want to use a US service or a UK service.
You can set it up on the DD-WRT router too though; I dont have one though :-(

I had a quick look and it seems you can only setup HMA on DD-WRT using the generic OpenVPN client. I don't think you can setup individual clients to be routed over the VPN like you can with Astrill. But I could be wrong...

Couple of additions to this...

1) I have HMA set up on an Open WRT router (router is a TP-Link WR1043ND), via Open VPN, and it works with Netflix and Hulu (US based VPN) but currently all my household traffic goes through VPN. I watch these services on a PS3. I have read that you can configure Open VPN to only route traffic from a specific local IP (i.e. the PS3) through the VPN but I haven't tried to do it yet. I'll post if I get it working, but I'm not trying just now as my Slingshot internet connection speed has dropped to 1Mb/s thanks to cabnetization.

2) You can probably do all this without additional hardware (e.g. an DD-WRT/OpenWRT router) via PlayOn running on a PC with the HMA VPN client software installed. The only thing here is that the PS3 may not see the PC running PlayOn on the local network with the VPN client running. TVersity is another option to PlayOn and both cost money to license.
