I have been with Slingshot on the Naked Unlimited plan for just over 1 month now.

We don't do a lot of streaming other than radio every now and then, and the odd youtube. Normal browsing and email etc is fine, no complaints.

As long as you are aware about the traffic shaping there should be no suprises - I was taken off guard with the shaping, expecting my p2p and ftp to be just the same as on my orginal provider.

Being more aware of it now I have no problems with the traffic shaping, I just do the bulk of my downloaded off peak - best times seem to be after 1am sometime, till after 7am sometime. If you can be patient and schedule your downloads, rather than expecting them straight away then I say go for it.

Totally converted here and no thoughts of changing back to my original provider (xnet/WorldeXchange FYI)

I am not a heavy downloader, usually use 170-200GB per month. Never fully utilize my 250GB allowance. The main reason to switch is to get rid of landline so I can save some cost. Therefore, I don't mind to lose my current landline number.

I am being cautious about switching is because i read some complaints about speed, and I have bad experience with telecom's unlimited plan before. Also I can not get my 250GB plan back after i switch.

So if you said watch twitch and youtube will be as good as my current plan(able to watch 480/720p anytime with no/little lag or buffer,even during peak) and P2P speed will be reasonable, than its good enough for me.

probably call to switch next week.

Yes Telecom failed at creating a Unlimited plan there was no real priotisation and the priotisation that was in place was easily bypassable and thus lechers took up all the bandwidth becuase Telecom had no control the plan failed.

I remember using a Telecom connection at a friends place when this plan was available the connection was slow....

I use to be on the Old Unlimited plan and had no issues with Youtube or any game that i happened to play at the time, flatmate did not complain either. I then moved onto the 250gb plan the same one your on and noticed no change in speed.

Should I be able to stream 720p and 1080p FLVs from the likes of YouTube reliably with this plan? About 30% of the time 720p works, but usually it just chokes up and loads so slowly that I'm forced to go back down to the lower resolutions. I can't imagine for one second trying to stream something like netflix. Youtube HD was much more useable on Orcon. Can you guys watch HD youtube reliably?

Does anyone know approximately how many mb/s are being used for those 720p and 1080p flv streams?

Tbh, no. If its cached by slingshot, its fine; but if its HD of pretty much anything except the latest pop hit, you wont be able to stream it.

But i found the same on slingshot capped plans, so YMMV

My experience is similar to yours, although I'd say it's more like 60% of the time for me. 720p Youtube videos frequently load at <100kB/s (while the 480p version loads at ~1MB/s.) This happens at just about any time of day, Slingshot-hosted content server or not.

The bitrate of the videos seems to vary widely. I've watched some fine at just over 300kB/s, while others stop to buffer at around 600kB/s.

It really depends on the video. I generally download YouTube videos in HD to watch later. I can use a download manager to pull it down at line speed, cached or not.

When I want to watch the odd video though, I don't really ever have problems with streaming myself. I did notice its a bit more difficult after about 9PM. But if I refresh the page, its much quicker.

Hi guys,

Youtube should load fine on the Unlimited plan, I watch HD video's every day on my Unlimited connection and often with two different computers at the same time.

Are you using any other downloading software or programs that may be using your bandwidth? I.E try completely isolating the youtube/streaming and let me know if you are still having issues.

From my point of view everything is fine, good speeds for streaming youtube etc.

I find I suffer using my FTP Client - streams limted to around 10kbs during peak times, then after about 1am and before 9am it's over 100kbs

The girlfriend often uses Skype without any issues as well.

Please don't interpret that as a complaint as such, I am a very happy customer, very happy indeed.

I think we did over 400gb last month.

I fully understand and accept the traffic shaping, its just worth noting particularly to those who are going to switch over from other providers.

It was a little naive of me to expect unlimited download with the same sort of speeds that I had before - particularly when I was paying for each and every byte.

Hi All

just wanted to get your advice all.

I just saw this unlimited plan on your site and read reviews on this site and it sounds pretty great.
Now my query is can I switch to Naked Unlimited Plan?

here's my current ISP
TelstraClear Cable internet (no phone line)
VOIP with 2talk
My house doesnt have phoneline but it does have phone line wirings as the old owner is with Telecom.
My location is Mitchell Street Brooklyn Wellington

Can you please advise if I can switch with your naked unlimited plan?

Will this be a 12month contract? is there anyway I could cancel if my movie streaming is no good? this is my mainly purpose of internet and actually working from home so stable internet is really required. we dont download torrent.. just browsing and watching movies..
