Well I shifted from Vodafone ADSL to Snap VDSL this morning.
I am looking forward to the speed jump and increase in data cap for a lower price than what I was paying.

If they introduced the "global mode" I know of 3 others at work who would transfer their account as quick as too

I'm using a service called "Strong VPN" which has an annual fee somewhere around $50 to $60 depending on how you sign up, so $4 - $5/month. Have been with them for 2.5 years across Orcon, TelstraClear cable and now Snap.

You don't really need technical skill to use the service as they have Mac and Windows client software that will automatically configure the VPN for you, and even select the best server.

you know you can get an identical effect by simply signing up with unblock-us.com for $5USD a month. It works on most ISPs in NZ, which means you also get the benefit of not being locked to your ISP for broadband.

Why not just get them to sign up for that and make their ISP decision separately?

Nope. I think you can't change more than once a month, though.

I'm trying to pick a VDSL plan.

If I read correctly, the VoIP option means paying 10 cents/min for all (including local) calls. Is that correct?

So am I better off choosing the 'normal' phone option; which seems to be the same price; $95 per month? In my case I would just have to pay a one-off $52 to change from Orcon's VoIP.

No, it looks like local calling is free. It's only national that is the 10c. The other advantage with voip is you get stuff that costs extra on POTs for free (voicemail, caller id, etc)

I haven't looked back since going voip; I'm with 2talk and the web management stuff is very cool. And there's a bunch of stuff I haven't even played with yet. Not sure what you get with the snap voip online management, but it might be worth looking at 2talk too. Snap naked VDSL + 2talk voip has been brilliant for our house.

My wife tells me a box turned up at our place from Snap this morning, too. No contact from them as yet, but I imagine they are flat out. Looking forward to having a play with the Fritz!

Yes, I think I used mine for ADSL for a few days before VDSL was provisioned; I think there may be a couple of settings you need to tweak.

Also I seem to remember I had to do a factory reset when VDSL was provisioned due to some sort of bug in the firmware at the time. Not sure if it's required for a current firmware and it wasn't a major issue, but something to keep in mind.

Probably a stretch but I wonder if they would let you renew an existing contract to the full 24 month term and allow you the 100GB extra data....
