Gave up waiting for support.

Turned off IPV6 completely to return facebook to normal service, will revisit this some other time.

What does one lose for turning off IPV6?

You no longer have an IPv6 address. Thats it.
So almost nothing.

this. IPv6 will become more important later on, when CGNat is more common pretty-much.

I have had issues loading facebook and wikipedia pages. I just disabled IPv6 and everything is loading up straight away. Usually I have to refresh 10 times to load a wikipedia page, its been doing it for past 3 months or so. Any draw backs to having ipv6 disabled?

I was (and still am) having the exact same issue. Re-enabled IPv6 after Ralph notified of us some changes in their systems but still having the same problems.

you simply loose IPv6 which at this point in time, doesnt mean anything really..

very few services take advantage of IPv6, without having a reasonably equal IPv4 counterpart.

for reference, im still not having any of these issues though... biggest issue i have, is the fritzbox with IPv6 enabled throws off games NAT detection for some reason, but then so many games are moving away from the P2P model too.. (talking PC gaming).

Thanks for the IPv6 tip to disable.

Have been having quite a few sites loading super slow if at all on UFB and after disabling IPv6 everything is running much better.

I have ipv6 disabled and am having plenty of timeouts still.

Unfortunately I don't have boxes of vdsl routers to see if it's just the flakey fritz.box or snap having problems.

have you changed off the .1 dns server? that one seemed to have some odd dns issues, since changing to .2 and .3 forcefully,  i haven't had a single issue.

I have own dns server on the lan which is using roots so shouldn't be at the mercy of isp ones. Am seeing issues on the chromecast too which is using 8.8.8.8 and I haven't bothered sorting out redirecting that back to mine.

RalphFromSnap: Hi Gabe,

If the Fritz was from Snap it will be fine as we push out the settings to them automatically, if it was not sourced by us then we might need to apply them manually - it would be worth contacting us to get your Fritz updated with the Snap specific (and some NZ specific) settings if you are using it on our network, as there is a significant amount of customisation on our supplied Fritzs.

In saying that we have also made some other Ipv6 improvements around our core too.

Thanks,
TheRalph

Hi Ralph,

Any chance you can tell us what those changes are? I'm not running a Fritz anymore (and the first thing I did was disable remote management of it anyway). I'm still seeing Facebook IPv6 problems (enough to make me disable v6 for now). It'd be nice if Snap had a config page similar to Internode's. http://www.internode.on.net/support/guides/internet_access/ipv6/

Thanks,
Matt.

FWIW - a few months back i looked at my settings page and noted that remote management was off too.

Turns out Snap can turn it on/off via TR-069 regardless of what the user has set. (presumably the device was/is a Snap managed one in the first place)
I was told this when I called to get some VoIP lines configured.

Re-flashed my Fritz!Box the other day and had to call Snap to get the right VoIP settings and I happened to mention the IPv6 issue to the CSR and he said something along the lines of "Yes, we've seen the Fritz!Box's turning on native IPv6 by themselves and of course native IPv6 is not going to work well because hardly any websites have IPv6." This is not the first time that Snap CSRs have very confidently told me wrong information and been misinformed. So his advice was to have IPv6 enabled but to use native IPv4 with a 6RD tunnel.

Meanwhile, the native IPv6 issues I've been having are still not rectified...
