Cool thanks for that.

Ok. Just out of curiosity...do you know what the result might be "IF" , by chance, The blue pair from the Master Filter "did" actually connect to the the CAT5 blue pair and carried on into the jack....as opposed to the tech linking the green pair of the of the Master Filter to the CAT5 blue pair? Would it not work at all?...or is it possible id get a very poor reading, yet still working ...as is my case atm? Ill take another look tomorrow and take undeniable photos of the connections next time just to confirm ^^.

Just wondering :)

Cheers

RunningMan:
hio77: kinda looks like its been installed correctly.

looks like the tech has taken the easy route, and skipped the installation of the POTS side, since orcons install is naked dsl.

to double check, was this a fresh cable the tech installed there? just doesnt quite make sense, if the cables were all there and waiting, why the tech didnt connect the rest of it.. seems lazy for all of another 5 seconds of putting joiners in.

Difficult to tell if the POTS side has been connected when looking at those photos. Pretty unlikely it hasn't been given the rest looks good, but really need the OP to confirm if the blue/white pair from the splitter is connected to the original house wiring.

it is indeed hard, the OP kinda indicated to it possibly being from the filter rather than the cable, so i ran with it from that way.

If the VDSL jack was connected to the blue pair (voice), in most circumstances you wouldn't get a VDSL sync as the signal would be too attenuated. If however, you were very close to the cabinet and had a very good signal, then in some circumstances there would be enough to get modem sync. This doesn't happen very often though.

Basically, you wouldn't normally get a connection at all, but it can happen if everything else is perfect (not very common though).

You know what they say about making assumptions but...... I'm assuming the pairs sitting there that are not connected are simply the 3 unused ones from the cat5 (green, brown and orange).

Im not sure what my ADSL stats were. Im completely illiterate when it comes to these kinds of details sorry. All i know was that i could max a 1Mb download and 100kb upload on ADSL. I never bothered looking at these stats for ADSL because i just assumed that , that was normal speeds for ADSL...and figured i get a lot more when i saw the VDSL package avaliable at Orcon. =/

Anyway i ended going out again and took more pics. Note that the Splitter is dangling down at the bottom of the images. But it seems like the wiring is what was expected.

-Blue/white of splitter going to a orange/white of a 2pair/4core cable which heads inside.
-Orange/white of splitter going to yellow and black conductors of a 7 core (i think it was) heading out to the street.
-Green/white of the splitter going to the blue/white pair of the CAT5 heading inside.

Guess im outta luck =/

Perfect - that's how it should be.

Wait and see what DLM does over the next week or so, sounds like it has improved significantly already, but wait and see what happens. You're still far better off than on ADSL speed wise, but wait and see what the latency does.

Argh just cant understand it. I found the site http://www.chorus.co.nz/sat  to see what chorus says about the connection i should get and
if im reading it correctly it says "more than" 10Mbps.

I just wonder what else could possibly be limiting my speeds. House wiring perhaps?
I know there used to be a home alarm system set up here at some stage thats not there anymore.
And theres about 3 or 4 other normal jacks around the house that dont get used. I wonder
If all that excess wiring is contributing =/ . I gotta find out how much it costs to test and or to rewire .

the way your line is configured, thoses jackpoints arent part of your dsl connection.

that screenshot is mainly showing UFB, heres your address (since its in your screenshot) with only the vdsl layer.

that puts you just outside of the shape map (which doesnt mean you cant get vdsl, but makes it far less likely.) - shape maps arent always correct.

clearly you can get it, so its just a see how things are going sort of thing at this point, if you feel the upgrade is worth it, for you.

Faster than 10Mbps means you are in an ADSL2+ coverage area. You are not within a VDSL2 coverage area so can't expect better performance.

Ah ok got it. Ok , even so..with all the stats and stuff that we've run through plus everything else determined...Is 1Mb actual download and 500kb upload what youd expect...after putting it all together? If so, then ill give up and accept it. But if not, i really want to find out what the problem is.

your syncing at what? 16/8mbit? that should get about 1.2~1.4MB/s throughput. / 600~700KB/s (loosely calculated.)

you seem to be getting very stuck up on rounding figures.

end of the day, its up to you, is an huge increase in upstream, and maybe a bit extra on the download worth it for you?

The problem is that your house is just outside the VDSL zone, and that there is too much copper between you and the exchange.
Its called downstream attenuation - VDSL is very sensitive to it.
I feel your pain - I had exactly the same problem myself, and eventually decided to go back to ADSL.
I hope that your 10-day DLM "training" period goes well, and that your speeds improve - but they may not.

Are you now getting 1MB/s down and 500KB/s up? (There's a huge difference between 1MB and 1Mb, so need to be clear on this).

If this is the speed you are getting, how exactly are you measuring it?

If your sync is now 16/8 I would have expected about 50% faster than that on a speedtest to a local server.
