lomenak: This thread makes me happy for my choice to join Orcon (again). I cant wait to get VDSL (hopefully) connected on the 16th.
Please would you report back when you get it and what your initial feeling is toward it?? (I know that it will take 10 days to reach its optimum settings, but I am still interested nonetheless :))

Sure that is not a problem. I am very interested myself;)

haha understandable :D, so is the technician only coming on the 16th? or is that when you will actually start to use the VDSL?

That will be when the tech arrives and installs the VDSL master filter he'll either tell you right there and then to plug in your modem and let it boot up or he'll need to go back to the cabinet first for a few minutes and then he'll be back to plug it in and run a couple of checks

User123456:(I know that it will take 10 days to reach its optimum settings, but I am still interested nonetheless :))

Just to clarify, in a lot of cases your line will go straight onto the optimum profile for your line and need to make no further changes during the 10 day initial training period. It isn't a case of it will be at its best on the 10th day and not before.

After the 10 day period, it still trains but samples the line and can change profile at a much slower rate.

If your speed is going up and down during the 10 day period due to profile changes then it probably indicates a line fault that needs to be investigated.

Ah ok I see, thank you for the clarification, I will be honest and thought that on the 10th day it would be at its best settings.  Thank you for the pointer as well, will keep that in mind if I notice any speed differences.

mine changed every 2 days and setteled on its final speed on the 4th day, about 3 months later i got bumped up to a 17a profile (close to the cabinet, lower than 7dB attenuation, and no profile change in the last 90 days).

you start on the 8b (0-50mbps) profile normally and if your line is good enough can jump to the 17a (0-70mbps) profile.

Oh nice, yet some more useful information. Thank you for that Jase. How did you find out about the different classes? I.e. 17a/8b etc

The Netcomm NF4V which should be supplied tells you when you go into it. You can find it displayed at the first page after you login into the modem and in device info > statistics > xDSL

Oh ok. Well I know it displapys things like the line attenuation, line db's and stream speads, but I havent seen anything relating to those clases... I assume they are found on the internet and based on thd stats from your modem?

you may or may not see it you need to have a reasonably low attenuation figure to get 17a ie within about 300m of the cabinet

the technician is only coming on the 16th, preferably that would be the day I start using the connection:)

I think I will definitely see it then as I am at a db of 12db and at least 900m away from the cabinet. Think I may fall into the 8b group and it may not change...
