We really should stop this argument here since nobody has experience with the ISP in question and from what I have seen for those successfully connected with Stuff Fibre the results were actually not /too bad/.

It is after-all personal preference. We all know who I prefer and who I dislike, but others may like who I dislike. There is no "one size fits all" ISP. If you do want Gigabit and really care about speed then maybe going to one of the proven providers in that space might be best (until more results of the other providers are posted) however there is no harm in trying new things.

Same goes with mobile providers, power companies etc. It'll always be an ongoing argument with "who is best" with no correct answer. This is why I use 2 providers (BigPipe for UFB and Voyager for VDSL at two different locations).

My brother in-law refuses to use Bigpipe because they are "owned by Chorus" and he has "had bad experiences with them when they were Telecom". I've tried talking him into switching his 40Gb/month plan to an unlimited (cheaper) plan, but he flat out refuses. Then of course, he also refuses to go onto fibre because he's "not going to let them touch his (20 year old) 'expensive' Cisco network" and doesn't want to "have to pay for the electricity for their ONT" and have them "rummaging around his house" to install it.

I've given up entirely on trying to give him advice when it comes to anything networking or technology (he hated the Nexus 5 I "talked him into" after raving about mine).

This thread kind of reminds me of that. Where everyone seems to have an opinion on the matter, and they are sure they are right. I've personally never used Stuff broadband (and probably never will for no other reason than I'm happy with my current provider).

If someone wants to try it and give their opinion, I'd love to hear it, especially after they've used it a few months. Otherwise, I have no reason to believe they'll be horrible (or great).

So, all connected up.

The install was a shambles, visionstream are a mess.

But let's not go there.

So, found out that the 7490 fritz I have is restricted from doing any decent fibre speeds due to the 2dg firmware on it. (I know this because they had to remotely flash firmware on my friends one who is with them, that would lose it if the fritz was powered off or reset/setting changed, but said that it would be permanent from his billing date onwards??? [we know this to be fact also, because we reset it])

So got sent the ASUS that Stuff lend you for free and using that.

First thing I found out is that the "boost" plan is actually "what's available in your area" meaning that if their network doesn't support over 200/20 then you will get 200/20 regardless of the chorus network.

However I was told that they have done upgrades in the last few weeks so can offer 1k/500 in 12 or so new cities, including mine.

So, got mine manually changed to gigabit after being on 200/20 for a few weeks (was mostly out of town so wasn't

Few issues still unfortunately.

Best speed result I have gotten:

Got told on the live chat that that's what they expect, will talk to the guy who's been helping me out previously later today when he get's in and will update how that goes.

2nd thing is that ping, it will not go below 15ms in any speedtest.

So I run a tracert, first 2 external IP's are: 203.97.25.86/85

Look them up and they're Vodafone IP's....??

Terribly confusing experience, hoping for answers when I call up later.

One last thing to mention, I have a public IP, no CG-NAT however I don't see any offer of a static IP :)

not sure what you mean about the fritzbox 7490 being restricted , im using one on a gigabit plan and get 940GB down and 460 GB up constantly.

bought from 2 degrees and im with 2 degrees , but i got rid of the 2 degrees firmware and just use the standard 6.52 firmware never had a problem. Im just wondering why you are using 2 degrees firmware if it restricts your speeds .

i didnt think it was that hard , i just went into the fritzbox and hit the update button and when it finished updating i was on the 6.52 firmware . Maybe i was lucky . but i have never had a problem and my speeds as i said are constant. I also use 2 degrees voip service and that still works fine.

forgot to say but the firmware i replaced was the one that 2 degrees remotely put on my fritzbox for more stable speeds for fibre.

Common sense is not as common as you think.
