MatteGreen:

Hey @DjShadow

The date of the transfer is completely up to you.

We can schedule the order on day 30 to accommodate the notice you need to leave.

I hope that helps!

Matt

Kinda but I'll reword to be absolutely sure:

If I were to place an order to join Orcon today (existing fibre user) and asked to have services transferred on 8 September (30 days away), would my current ISP receive a request to transfer services today to move services in 30 days time or would the whole thing be ordered in 30 days time on requested transfer date?

Its this T&C which has caught me out in the past

There’s a 30-day notice period when you cancel Spark's services. The notice period starts from the day your new service provider requests a transfer of service/s with Spark on your behalf. You can find more information on our 30-day notice period in our terms and conditions.

@Djshadow

Obviously I can't 100% confirm as I don't work for Spark but they should've built their system to pick up on the orders sent through Chorus (as we have).

I'm sure they do so they would have a record of when the order was put through.

Cheers,

Will I be able to sign up this deal as I was with Orcon one year ago?

Hi @simophin,

The minimum time to be away is 3 months before you can be counted as a 'new' customer again.

One year is totally fine so you will qualify!

Cheers,

Matt

So, a massive shout out to Orcon and @mattegreen in particular. I have been with ISP's since before ADSL was a thing. I have changed many times, and I have installed literally hundreds of connections for other people across my IT career. If I have had a better or more seamless experience with an installation, then I can't recall it. Orcon did exactly what they said they would do and when they said they would do it, showed flexibility and were prompt in dealing with my queries. I can't strongly enough recommend them, despite my earlier reservations. So far my speeds have been very close to advertised rates and the price is unbeatable as well.

Shout out to @ChorusNZ who get a lot of stick here, but our installation was sooner than expected and done to a pretty decent standard as well.

I can't really have asked for more from either company, and now I can download an hour of TV in 6 seconds! Yay.

Huge thanks to @mattegreen for answering all my questions on here, you're a legend and a real asset to Orcon.

I recently changed to Orcon Fibre and it has been an extremely smooth transition. Communication from Orcon was excellent, everything went like clockwork and the Fibre connection is amazing.

Highly recommend Orcon!

Slingshot and Orcon always seem to be offer 6 months half price or 3 months free on a 12 months contract (i.e. same thing over 6 months/12 months). If not via Glimp that Geekzone uses, via the other comparison site. And although both are Vocus subbrands, you're still considered a new customer AFAIK. So even though you may not be able to get the deal on Orcon as an existing Orcon customer, you can just move between Orcon and Slingshot every 12 months.

I assume service is mostly the same nowadays, only noticeable difference may be lack of IPv6 on Slingshot UFB due to differences in how they handle connections. And I think low level support are still subbrand specific so may vary. Also if you want one of the other deals like Google Mesh, these may be specific to one of the subbrands.

I believe both do require you to accept their rental model. I assume in part so if you have problems they can tell you to connect it.

It's a cheap device at $15 to keep on hand if you need something to troubleshoot with. That's how I looked at it.

Is there any difference between the 2 deals apart from the $5 price.

kiwimustang: Hi Matt, these ones through Geekzone.

You didn't say how you managed to select these two options! The one on the right includes landline.

My first ever AM radio network connection was with a 1MHz AM crystal(OA91) radio receiver.

On the first page of this thread, it is the second entry. Anyway my question is answered with the second one including landline.

Just checking to see if there are any GZ specific deals with Orcon on Gigabit right now or planned in the near future?
