Yeah mate I plan to do the same. Will monitor it tonight and the next few days. My billing cycle has just started and they require 1 month cancellation notice so I need to act fast.
From what I've seen I can save $20 a month by moving to Telecom.

Same here. Very good speeds last night and just then (5.26pm). Best speeds I've gotten so far. 17.03mbps on the speedtest I did just then. Hope it lasts!

In Westmere. Youtube videos, for example, painfully slow to start/load.

Past 2 nights at peak time I'm averaging 13-14Mbps so it's holding for me. Will test youtube and stuff over the weekend.

I have noticed a drop in performance of my connection too. At peak times my pings have shot up and making online gaming not very fun. After 11pm pings go back to normal and are fine till the next evening.
Hasn't been an issue before, Orcon must have done something recently.

johnr: it's not that slow many people around New Zealand would give their first born child for that speed :oP

Indeed. I'm currently getting 1Mb/s. Been meaning to diagnose it further, as speed seemed to at least halve as soon as we changed between Telecom broadband plans. Its on the TODO list. Somewhere :-)

Thanks. I'm in Westmere, and not far from a Cabinet.

Modem sync is 13 down/1 up. Very stable connection indeed.

I just chose a random link from NZ media which led to this youtube video:

http://www.youtube.com/embed/8c8W1NDYf38

This refuses to load for me at all.

Can anybody else on Orcon play this link?

Sweet sounds like we have identical connection speeds. Youtube has been an issue with Orcon and me as long as I can remember.

Is there anybody here from Orcon who can give us some idea why this performance is so poor?

Yes no problems here playing that. My connection has been the best this week that it has been in almost two years. No idea why though???

Wellington. In a new subdivision that has only been recently cabinetised. I have found that obscure YouTube videos still have the problem so maybe caching by Orcon is helping more common stuff? Speedtest for national and international is still excellent (but only for the last few days)
