Yip. Flakey Slingshot connectivity here too.
DSL and PPP and solid, but general browsing has taken a turn for the worse.
International connectivity is pretty much completely gone for me.

The geekzone CSS doesn't seem to be loading for me as well. Typing this in a very weird looking geekzone quick reply box. Having to guess where the "Post quick reply" button has gone.

Me too. Big problems. Mostly sites outside NZ. VUW was down before but came back up, Cambridge University is down, University of Liverpool, is up but VERY slow, UC Berkeley and Monash are down. The Reg, Wikipedia, Kongregate, all down, amongst others.

Glad to see it's not just me, sad to see there's a problem!

I'm having the same problems here, I have a VPN service and it seems if I connect through that I have no problems at all, but if I don't most sites just wont load.

Oh and Hi all :D

Looks like it is all up and running now.

Things appear to be back to normal for me now.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Lucky for some who have any internet at all - since about 11pm last night I've been getting no internet at all. ADSL syncing, but in log i can see PPP time out error message. Slingshot's 0800 number has been giving me busy signals since that time also (both from landline and cellphone). Luckily my neighbour has been generous enough to share his connection though WiFi with me - I work from home, and if there is no internet I can't do anything.

I'm in Titirangi, Auckland.

Slingshot's twitter account saying that all of these problems have been causing by a power outage - I really find it hard to believe that a simple power outage would take down the ENTIRE network. Have they heard of UPS and diesel backup generators? Simply not good enough. We should certainly be looking at some sort of compensation package...

Hi Guys

There's been more then sever power issues and as a result of that we lost a core router and a few services, this was replaced last night at around 2am however since then we have been getting issues all day.

And yes before someone says we should have UPS we do and we have a generator.

We are still working on all these issues and working as hard and fast as we can to restore services.

Kind Regards
Bevin Smeith

On the bright side the timing wasn't too bad, could have been at 6pm

timing couldnt have been worse for me.... i was in the middle of a massive data migration into the cloud for a client... i had to back out of a few hours of work and start over... :|

Haha, I bet they must be looking forward to their cloud service now :p

well they have users spread accross USA, UK, NZ, AU and other EU locations, so the cloud solution would have stayed up for the bulk of their users in this case.  Especially at that time of the day when EU/UK is active and NZ sleeps (except me)

Well, they obviously didn't work too well then! :)

Anyhow, I'm just really frustrated at not getting much info regarding the issue and the progress towards it's resolution. Short messages appear on the website network status and are then marked as resolved - and that frustrates me - since my line has been down the entire time... The support call centre number is not reachable at all...

Thanks,
Nick

At the risk of creating a useless post........ googles dns servers = primary 8.8.8.8
secondary 8.8.4.4....... I find them easy to remember, and for those without alternate net access diagnosing a dns issue without alternative dns ip's is frustrating as............

HI coolbest

You possibly have a issue that is not related to the outage, Contact our helpdesk from a cellphone its free 0800 89 2000.

I apologies that no one can help here, I believe the helpdesk is very busy today dealing with issues here and there and my self I'm dealing with ongoing issue that happened before the major issue last night.

Thanks
Bevin

This has been my biggest problem - I can't get though to the Helpdesk on 0800 892000. During the whole day today I've only managed to get through once and hear the "If you are having problems - please restart your modem" message, then main menu - and after selecting technical help - just silence. I've tried about 20 other times today - and all of these resulted in busy dial tone (I've tried from both of my cellphones, landline and skype)...

No reply to my email from this morning either...

Is there alternative number that I can try?

Thanks,
Nick
