Detruire: I can't say that I've noticed any difference compared to a couple of weeks ago.

Giving more bandwidth to heavy downloaders is like feeding bread to seagulls, never enough.

Peak time speeds on the plan used to be significantly faster a few months back (2-5 times faster over the course of the evening.)

I've actually started to notice my speed is more consistent at all times. Browsing and YouTube mostly.

Have been using thisw plan since the beginning of the year when it first came out
Initially it was really good - speeds were great even during peak hours. Now it is abymsmal. After 7pm until 1 or 2am my speeds are 50kbps. My primary reason for purchasing the plan was so I could watch streams, particularly starcraft tournaments, which occur usually during those hours. Its completely useless now and I can't watch any streams on any quality without it stuttering constantly.

is there any hope for me?

No hope, i think you'll find twitch.tv if that's who your watching the stream through doesn't have a close enough server for AUS / NZ so i was told by a twitch admin, we go through Singapore before our traffic lands in L.A and singapore is highly congested during our off peak hrs, you might have to have a word with slingshot as i could be wrong. But as far i know slingshot have said its there not there end.

try Own3dtv might be better, during the day twitch is fine any resolution it runs sweet, but come offpeak it turns to crap, i was off work with a broken ankle so i could watch streams during the day, but yeah night time its cabbage

Same problem here twitch tv is fine during the day come peak time completely useless, Own3d works like a charm tho 24/7

I've also notice gaming ping increase lately gone from 150/160ms to 180/195ms during peak time (league of legends/warcraft) glad that 10$ increase making things better, oh wait no it isn't

Changed my tune a bit today.

Internet is essentially unusable. Anyone else suffering from this? It started happening just after 6PM and is still occurring past 10PM.

Download/upload results show an average of about 0.2Mb/s down and 0.3Mb/s up (isolated machine on ethernet with no background tasks running) Sync shows 16Mb/s. Reset the modem with no change in results. Tried two other modems with no change in results. I used speedtest.net and speedtest.slingshot.co.nz

This will be the first time since I've joined Slingshot that this has happened. It fits in nicely with all the other reports of slow speed. I cannot even stream 240p YouTube. Multi-threaded downloads are much faster but nowhere near what they were earlier today.

Will check the time-frames more often tomorrow and collect more info.

EDIT: Ping is the worst I've seen it. 150 to 300 + ms to local servers, including popular counterstrike source servers, TradeMe, Slingshot speedtest, Speedtest.net and various Australian servers.

Speeds today have been pretty poor. I'm unable to stream HD Youtube videos (200-300kB/s isn't adequate) and HTTP downloads are around the same speed. At first I was going to post in the "Slow Overseas Traffic" thread, but then I noticed that my national latency was almost double what it usually is (~28ms to 202.180.81.32 instead of the usual ~16ms).

When I tried the Slingshot speedtest, I got the following results: (After two hard resets of the modem and making sure that nothing else was using the connection.)

Download Speed: 5334 kps (666.8 KB/sec transfer rate)   
Upload Speed: 985 kps (123.1 KB/sec transfer rate)   
Packet Loss: 0 %   
Jitter: 0 ms   
Latency: 27 ms    
Test Server: nz-akl

Usually it'd be around 1100kB/s down and 17ms. My sync rate is 12534 Kbps / 1184 Kbps.

I'm on an LLU/"better network" connection in Palmerston North.

Well, Its 11:30 and just after I emailed Scott, I ran another speed test to find everything is back to normal. What about you Detruire?

Will be running regular tests tomorrow around the same time period to nail down a trend.

Definitely looking better. Youtube seems great again (1080p in a couple of videos streaming fine) and the speed test looks much better.

I subscribed to this plan with a home phone back in April, and have thus far been very happy with it.

However yesterday I called Slingshot and asked if I could downgrade our plan to the naked version as we haven't used the phone in months. The representative on the phone was very helpful but told me (after talking to her superiors) that as I was still on a contract I could switch however it would cost $25 upfront and would extend our current contract by 12 months.

I told her I'd mull it over and get back to her, as I didn't even realise we were on a contract as when I signed up to the plan back in April, one of the big advantages of the plan was that there were no contracts.

If that was the case, why am I now on a contract?

That happened to me. I signed up in the "No Strings" period and I'm in a contract. I do believe the homeline is different though. The ETF for broadband is $149.00. The ETF for homeline is only $25.00. If that is the case, then broadband is not in contract, but your homeline is. :)

hmmm. I have been meaning to change to naked now that the plan has proved itself. I have never even had a phone plugged into the line.

Will not be happy if they claim I am on a contract.
