It doesn't look like the database that RSM make available for Spectrum Search Lite contains cancelled licences. Would make sense really considering the database is supposed to be for live licences. A shame.

Still - I don't know if it would have helped toooo much, as the whole point would to programmatically display a real LTE tower, which would have to be done off the current licence data... Otherwise again it would be a manual exercise. How would you know when a tower was upgraded based on the old licence data vs the new licence data?

The problem here is single RAN; the site can utilise 1800 or 900 for LTE/2G, 3G/2G as and when it pleases depending on load etc. Its basically a single radio controller.

JohnR would be able to confirm this, as not 100% sure that this is the way it is used here, but I know the kit can do this.

Different services (i.e. GSM/UMTS/LTE) are provided in different sub-blocks. For example Vodafone's 900MHz block of spectrum is split into two sub-blocks: one for 2G/GSM and the other for 3G/UMTS. This happens for UMTS and 4G/LTE in 1800MHz as well I presume. So even where UMTS/GSM/LTE/etc share spectrum they still operate in their own blocks, isolated from each other. So it doesn't really matter how much load there is, each site will utilise pretty much the same fixed amount of spectrum for each service at each site.

Unless things has changed in the last few years, Vodafone simply runs all services (i.e. GSM/UMTS/LTE) on all avaliable frequencies (obviously depending on what gear has been configured on at a particular site) and leaves it to the network/phone to auto-select what works best. There's unfourtently not much point juggling spectrum between different services depending on load, as your post seems to imply.

That would cause interference issues in the tight spectrum space Vodafone has to operate in. For example cell site suddenly started up another UMTS carrier in the spectrum usually reserved for GSM it would cause interesting issues for nearby GSM users . Much easier to just split the spectrum into to sub-blocks as described above and keep each service isolated from each other.

Happy to be corrected by John if I'm wrong -- I'm sure he'll elighten us. :)

I guess it's commercially sensitive, but it's a shame that all the Telcos can't just publically advertise exactly what towers have what. Going off RSM data alone will just be making assumptions based on a frequency which obviously isn't the best.
