reven: end of week and no word :(

i checked out telecom and orcon. neither offer static ips on their unlimited plan (so i wont switch to them), vodafone offer one at $20.40 (unless it not available on their unlimited plan either?).

im hoping snap reduce their datacap prices, my month ends on the 12th, and I ran out of bandwidth on the 10th :) so slow internet for a day and half (their additional top ups are far too expensive at $2 for 1 GB, $5 for 2.5GB). 1TB for around $125 a month ill be very happy.

still have to checkout bigpipe (but internet is slow :))

Static IP does not matter, I am using dyndns.org, yes I pay for it but its MUCH cheaper than a static IP and I get a domain name
and I can also have up to 30 Domains/IPs (for various other sites I am involved in)

I'm hoping Snap could increase their existing data allowance for ADSL users, if unlimited data plan is not what they would offer.

I'm on a 300Gb plan per month and usually use 300Gb+ each month.

Hi guys

Getting really close now! The details have been mostly confirmed and its now just making sure the back-end systems can handle the changes. We're pushing the Dev team as hard as we can!

Can't really say too much more but hopefully it will be worth the wait. The team are pretty excited about it ;)

they might not matter to you but they matter to me (and I bet a few others).

i originally got one to avoid having to revalidate against unblockus every time my IP changed.

but I self host my website so I cant change DNS records everytime my ip changes and I make a samsung tv app which needs to be deployed via a static ip (which i can do if shared hosting) - all free non-commercial stuff :)

Fingers crossed that this does not affect snaps performance.

I'm happy with status quo of good performance/nightly download window (excepting prices could drop on the data packs).

There are ways around a dynamic IP address if you're hosting public services (such as a website), services such as DynDNS will do the trick.

Setup a free DynDNS hostname which auto-updates the IP on file from your computer (using their little desktop client) and then have your actual domain forward to the DynDNS hostname.

I've done it before, it works (nearly) just as well as having a static IP.

that wont help unblockus or my samsung app. sure it would work with for some customers, but others do need a static ip (I am one of them).

Oh no Snap i hope you test this thoroughly before unleashing it to the masses! I also fear this will affect the network performance and would be much happier with adjustments to data pricing / uncapped night's.

Given that multiple ISP's are now offering unlimited traffic I don't think we'll see performance issues with hordes of leechers stacking one ISP now

Either way, looking forward to see what the new plans/pricing consists of

Would rather pay for the data pack that suits and have relatively consistent performance. Having suffered with previous attempts at AYCE plans, consistancy was what lead me to switch to Snap.

They could always pool bandwidth like Slingshot and Orcon does so that those on capped plans keep their speeds.

I find it rather intriguing that so many of you would rather have a data pack than unlimited - so as to ensure consistency with your data transfer rates - bizarre really, given your speed will be no different if you are downloading at 100Mb/s on an unlimited plan compared to being on a data pack. The only thing that will change is the amount you pay.

If I am on an unlimited plan of 100Mbits and download an item, is that materially going to affect your speed purely because I am on unlimited.

Currently my download/upload speeds will be identical irrespective of whether I am on data package or unlimited.

Come on people, put some logic into your thinking - dial up modems are history

Can't tell if you're serious or not..

Data caps help the ISP manage their bandwidth which is only a finite amount. It stops people from downloading the internet for the sake of it.

Unlimited plans mean that an ISP needs to constantly purchase bandwidth to deal with the peaks or traffic manage the bandwidth. Traffic management, depending on what's used, will either slow down particular forms of traffic or by placing users on unlimited plans into a separate pool of bandwidth to those which have data caps.

This ensures that those with data caps aren't impacted by the leechers on unlimited plans hence why some people would prefer to remain on a capped plan...

If it was that easy then Telecom wouldn't have tried and failed twice
