Their core network is 900mHz 2G with some 2100mHz 3g later in the year.

Every phone made recently will do GSM on 850 - no worries with that side of things, but perhaps they have plans for 3g on it at some stage soon since that will give them a decent range of handsets from those jumping from XT in the future?

How about a system like Telecom's (sadly) grandfathered Go One Bill. I know they will initially be offering only prepay connections but I'd move over in a heartbeat if they could do this prepay as a monthly bill, without the need for a fixed price plan etc. Seeing as they are a new company with no long term clients a bond would be a good way of setting up clients like this?

I'm not sure if it is possible but I shall suggest it anyway.

After reading some of the complaints about text scams on the forums and in the paper, would it be possible to have a 'premium text bar' put on your phone, similar to the way that you can place a toll bar on a landline (my theory being that you could block all texts that are going to cost you more than 20cents)?

If this is possible then consider it added to the list of requests.

2degrees should have a text plan that you can keep buying more texts when you run out, instead of having overage charges :)
and have calling minutes that you can buy.. e.g 60 mins for $$
on o2 in UK they let you top up 20 pounds, and have unlimited texts and calling to anyone on the o2 network, and still let you have that 20$$ etc and 30 pounds for unlimited texts and calls to any network in the uk.

i'm keen for that here. lol.

I was just in canada, and one of the cell providers, fido, had the following plan for texting which I thought was really good:

basically, you would pay 20c per text, but once you had spent $1 for the day, you wouldn't be charged any more. So once you had sent 5 texts you would get 'unlimited' for the rest of the day.

OK sure we don't need anything quite that good here (afterall you still have to pay the termination charges), but maybe have something similar.

I liked the above plan because somedays I wouldn't text at all, and hence wasn't being charged a thing, but other days I would text like mad.

May be good for those light to medium texters out there, but for your average texter this would far exceed the cost of $10/$12/$18 texting plans that are currently on offer. I send pretty much bang on 500 texts a month, spread evenly throughout most days, a plan like this would cost me upwards of $30, whereas current plans allow me to 'burst' my usage on some days and limit it on others.

This plan would be a great way however to milk money out of the youngsters!

4 x friday + 4 x Saturday (per month) = $8, add in the odd text every other day and you've reached the $10 cut off mark for $10 text (or $12 text). Agreed in your situation it may suit best, each to their own.

Handsomedan: The whole rort of termination rates needs to be sorted out sooner rather than later: The idea that you should know what network you are calling in the days of number portability is frankly ridiculous.
There's no way we can be expected to know if an 027, 021, 029 or 022 number is on one network or another.

Isn't there a freetxt number you can txt a phone number to to acertain thier network?

I think that's pretty cool... Aussie has more providers and nothing like this so you basically have to ask the person and try and remember thier provider... at least us Kiwi's have some brains :)

The more I think about it the more I like the idea suggested earlier about buying blocks of minutes etc when you need them.

Eg. on the first of the month you buy a block of say 100 minutes for $50 on the 15th you've used them all you can either choose to pay the higher per minute rate for the rest of the month or buy another block of minutes, same idea could be used for text and data.

This could all be easily implemented through a simple web interface.

Vodafone run this type of the for home broadband where when I run out of GB for the month I have the option to be throttled or pay the extra for another data block.

A mobile web interface to their prepay web system. Something reliable unlike the VF system which keeps going down.

Ummmmmmm, good pricing to landlines, or a option to have a landline number on your mobile like VF have with @ Home but with a bigger coverage area than they allow.

But really I just want cheaper calls, and for them to launch!!! :)
